NutGames - Vesper V(0.1.5)

infoAbout This Title

The big one. Last build ended with her body finally running again — and the man who owns her already had the next job lined up. This one is that job.

The fix came with a catch you'll have met if you finished the last build. What was wrong with Wren was never damage. It's a leash — a governor built into her, the reason she can never turn her power on the man who signs her orders. It doesn't come out without its controller, and she doesn't have to guess who's held that key the whole time. So every order she takes now rides on top of her own reason: find the thing that cuts her loose.

Mercer's order sends her into Vance Securities under a junior-analyst cover — plain badge, plain grays, nobody worth a second look — to get into a file room nobody audits. It's Calloway's. He runs the company's hunt for the rogue from the inside, working a case the whole floor treats as a crank chasing a ghost. Nobody believes him. That's the way in. You earn his belief, you get close, and the further under his guard you get, the more the room opens — down to where he finally gives up where your file is kept.

Work the case long enough and the bleeding takes a shape: an inside man, and an off-book pipe carrying it out. The pipe runs down through the underworld. At the Undertow, Sol names the courier — Colm, careful, in from seven, a man who moves things between the worlds for a buyer who pays on time. Earn him over a few evenings, take him in the back, and his drained memory hands you the rogue's face.

Which leaves the man on the inside. Vane — cleared for the vault you can't reach, and cold the second you've got the courier, the dock, and the dates on him. Trade his silence for your file, and carry it up to Mercer.

That's where this build ends. Cracking the key — cutting the leash, opening the file, and finally reading what she is — plus what becomes of Mercer once the rogue is real, is the next one.

A pile of smaller things went in alongside the story:

- The Undertow reads like a bar now. Sol was a text link named after the room he stood in. Colm was three forced nights of "buy a drink" before anything opened. Now they're both people — portraits, working hours, a dark bar when it's shut — and Colm you win by earning his trust over evenings, not by counting rounds.

- The drink stopped lying. Colm's "third one and I'm still counting them" used to fire on every single drink — the first, the eighth, the twentieth alike. Now the round moves with where you actually stand with him.

- The cover is a real disguise. On the Vance floor you wear the analyst kit or you get clocked — walk in out of it and a turned head is how a question starts. And the quest log tells you to put it on before you go up, instead of letting you find out the hard way.

Existing saves carry over. Load in, finish the repair bridge if you're not through it yet, and Mercer hands you the new job from wherever you are.

Thanks, as always — and to the people flagging things: keep doing it. It's what keeps this sharp.

More soon.
