「木の上の王様」制作後日談！Behind-the-scenes stories from the making of "King in the Tree"!
今回のアイディアの発想は、縦絵でキャラが上から下に大中小と並ぶ構図はどうしたら出来るかを考えていたところ、木に登っている３人のイメージが頭に浮かび決定！そのイメージをとにかくパースなどあまり気にせず、全体の絵の見栄え構図を第一に描いていきます。縦絵で俯瞰に大中小とキャラが並んだ構図は初めてなはず？だったので、個人的に難易度高めの絵でした。たいき君は最初はクワガタを持っていました。The idea for this piece came about while I was considering how to create a vertical composition featuring characters arranged from top to bottom in varying sizes (large, medium, and small). I realized I needed a way for them to ascend—like scaffolding—so the image of three people climbing a tree popped into my head, and I decided to go with that! I sketched out the concept without worrying too much about technicalities like perspective, prioritizing the overall visual appeal and composition instead. I believe this was my first time attempting a vertical composition with a high-angle view and characters arranged in large, medium, and small sizes, so for me personally, it was a challenging piece to create. Originally, Taiki was holding a stag beetle.
構図が決まったのでラフに入りました。色味を少し鮮やかに、体の等身やポージングを正確にしていきます。俯瞰でのパースが強くかかっているので、体のパースがかなり難しく苦戦していますね...ｗ あお君の右手の置き所がしっくりこなくて、木に凹凸を出して手を置くことにしました。ついでに新芽を出して顔に視線誘導。ここで「あっという間の夏休み」の前のシーンとして描こうと決まったので、その時の服装に変えました。木の後ろの背景は迷い中です。With the composition settled, I’ve moved on to the rough sketch stage. I’m making the colors a bit more vibrant and refining the body proportions and pose. Since there’s a strong high-angle perspective, getting the body's perspective right is proving to be quite a challenge... haha.I couldn't quite get the placement of Ao right hand to feel right, so I added some texture to the tree to give his hand a place to rest. I also added a new sprout to help guide the viewer's gaze toward his face. I decided to depict the scene leading up to "Summer Vacation Ends in a Flash" so I’ve changed the outfit to match that moment. I’m still undecided on the background behind the tree.
たいき君の顔回りとカブトムシ部分に木の枝と葉っぱがあると、シルエットが消えて良くなかったので枝を無くしてスッキリさせました。更にたいき君の頭上から野原を川にすることで、より視線が行くようにしました。一つ前の絵と比べると見やすくなったと思います。Having tree branches and leaves around Taiki face and the rhinoceros beetle obscured the silhouette, which didn't look right, so I removed the branches for a cleaner look. I also changed the area above Taiki head from a field to a river to better draw the viewer's eye.I think it's easier to view compared to the previous picture.
ちょっと遊び心として川に３人の少年を描いて完成！最初のイメージラフと比べるとこんな感じ。背景は結構変わりましたが、大体イメージ通りに完成出来たので良かったです。最近の絵は印刷物に対応出来るように余白を作っています。完成版はこの余白を取り除いた状態になっています。I added three boys in the river for a touch of playfulness, and it’s finished! Here is how it compares to the initial rough sketch. The background changed quite a bit, but I’m happy with the result as it turned out mostly as I had envisioned. Lately, I’ve been leaving margins around my illustrations to make them suitable for print; the final version shown here has those margins removed.
背景のみはこちら！葉っぱだけを外すと隠れている枝や３人も描いています。実際はもっと枝や葉がないと変ですが絵的に悪くなるので見映えを優先しています。Here is the background on its own! If you remove just the leaves, you can see the branches and the three characters that were otherwise hidden. While it might look odd in reality to have so few branches and leaves, I prioritized visual appeal over realism to ensure the image looks good.
