RhynoBullraq - Mortimer Confession

It has been awhile since I updated you all on Mortimer, well with things in life there hasn't been too much, but before my trip to disney, Mortimer actually experienced a change.

I shall explain

So when Mortimer & his allies arrived back from their last mission and celebrated their victory with a big party, they then were told of a job to go to an old underground temple that is filled with cursed objects. Mortimer had gotten cursed in the last place (and luckily got the curse reversed) So Mortimer wasn't too thrilled. But the part decided to go. On the way however we came across a pillar of some sort that began talking to Mortimer & the Witch Astillbe. Turns out a witch had trapped a devil called The Butcher inside it and he offered a reward to free him. So Mortimer & Astillbe agreed to help because their evil ways. The rest of the party couldn't hear or see the demon so they were confused. Mortimer lied that a witch trapped someone here and they freed him (it was a lie simply cause Mortimer left out the devil part)

So the Butcher rewarded Mortimer & Astillbe with Wraith sight (It allows us to see thing mortals can't and invisible things and such.) I was excited but also didn't think too much about it after we moved on with the mission. So we get to the place and we're dealing with ghosts, & these gnolls doing bad stuff there & we're told by a spirit that their is something evil that must be killed by using a certain spell. So we get the scroll and we plow through he enemies.

We get to the chamber with the monster, but it's filled with narrow dark halls, more ghosts & vines that want to kill us. And we finally find the evil creature. It's like a purplish blue goo with skulls inside it. And this dude starts fuckin us up. Most the part start being mind fucked and pulled closer to the creature and our knight gets consumed into it. (Luckily we saved him right before he died.

Mortimer again saved Hesta from dying.

But this is when something unexpected happened Mortimer used his demon possession ability, but this time Mortimer saw the "demon" he was summoning due to the wraith sight and it wasn't his original one he bounded himself to at puberty, it was the old lady who saved his life whom he had killed. She is now a vengeful demon who wants to see Mortimer die.

This sent shivers through Mortimer because for the first time really, he saw a consequence to his actions. Despite killing the woman to reunite her with her dead husband, he caused her to become hateful in the afterlife.

So we failed to kill the best properly after that so we had to wait for it to reform so we could use the spell on it.

So we rested in the next room and set up a barricade for the night. And Mortimer started to quietly spiral. He felt guilt over the old lady that he killed and it made him begin to question his past for the first time. He opened up a bit to Astillbe about his past, and about the idea of forgiveness. She was confused by Mortimer in this moment, she too could see the old lady.

So we ended up demolishing the goo creature the next day and we left the underground temple.

And the trip home Mortimer asked if Sister Dorthea (She is an occasional cleric we spend time with, a sweet young blonde woman who runs a temple in the first small town we started the campaign in, she had never been too fond of Mortimer before this point) would sit on his wagon with him. She agreed.

Here is where the picture above is.

Mortimer was lost in his mind about if he was redeemable or beyond help, so he asked Dorthea if a man like him could be saved. And she asked him if he wanted to confess. So Mortimer confessed, he confessed everything, this is where everyone at table learned Mortimer's whole backstory. Mortimer explained his childhood, about his love for Angel, about losing Angel, About the wicked things he did after that, all the way to killing the old lady. A lifetime of sin.

He revealed his face to Sister Dorthea as he explained his tale and cried. Mortimer asked again if he was beyond saving. That he wants to be able to earn seeing his Angel again when he dies.

Sister Dorthea emotional now too told Mortimer that he wasn't beyond redemption, but that for him to achieve it...would be hard.

Legit everyone at the table was crying, this scene was crazy. So they talked more and Mortimer has now made the decision the try to redeem himself, so he may get the ending he wants with his Angel.

After this in short, we ended up killing The Butcher and returning Dorthea back home, where Mortimer entered a church for the first time and prayed for the first time.

I'll leave the story there for now, will Mortimer be able to actually redeem himself, who knows, but he's certainly going to try, even if he struggles a bit. He is certainly determined to get the afterlife he wants.

As for the words on the pic, I thought they fit better than putting any dialogue on the picture.

When Mortimer showed his face Sister Dorthea touched his disfigure side without any judgment but truly seeing the broken man before her. I'm crying just typing this lol
