On Wednesday I posted Unexpected Transformations, the next TLS postlude. We also have our first ever fanart for Throne of Time thanks to Argo the Ratfolk! Please enjoy. ^-^
This week I'm going to announce the cancellation of a random idea that no one was anticipating because it was never mentioned. Basically, since long before TLS was complete, I've had the idea that it would be funny to declare that I had no new ideas and was going to make TLS2.
The idea would have been a video trailer showing off the game and making it look like the worst thing imaginable, including:
Simon is beardless and in a high school setting for no clearly explained reason.
The investments system has been replaced with a Match Three game where you line up TLS icons to earn ProN.
Everyone is horribly out of character, ranging from Nalili being bashful to Qum saying "Fuck this shit, I'm out." This is still one of my favorite scene ending ideas ever.
All the on-screen mechanics would have implied the game had a gacha system with heavy use of microtransactions.
Jibbers the Talking Squirrel would have shown up. Very few of you will even understand that reference, as it was a placeholder in the engine hiding spoilers from the players decrypting the game, but I think it would have been funny for those who knew.
The title would have been TLS 2: Sovereign Harder.
I was dead serious about doing this. I even set up the little map where I faked the Match Three system. But as I was looking over all the things I had to do to make the trailer a reality, I finally decided... no, this isn't a good use of my time. Even though all this would just have been faked in the engine, it would have taken a decent chunk of work that I should really put toward other things.
So I'm not doing the trailer. I hope that I produced some fraction of the chuckles the trailer would have generated just by telling you about the idea.
As I've said many times, I want TLS to be a comprehensive experience. There may be related works or potentially other games in the setting, but never a TLS #2. However, please look forward to the remaining TLS stories (including one this week), as well as TLS comics whenever I feel like them. ^-^
