I already posted a video from this photoshoot, so today it's time for the photos. This photoshoot was created for anothoer (3rd Issue) of Westron comics. It's my 3 rd cover for them but won't tell you which photo got picked. Leave your guesses in the comments!
The inspiration behind this photoshoot was Bies.
Bies and Czart, harmful and malicious demons, hostile towards humans. As pre-Christian demons, they inspired fear among the common people. In later times, attempts were made to equate them with the Christian Devil.
The term bies derives from the Proto-Slavic bĕsъ, meaning “causing fear or terror.”
The bies was said to inhabit primeval forests and woodlands (which were watched over by the leszy, the protective spirit of the forest), sacred or mysterious places, and sometimes swamps. It was believed that in these places, inaccessible to humans, the bies guarded hidden treasures.
These creatures were mainly known for destroying fields and devouring livestock. Together with the czarts, they were blamed for all kinds of calamities and misfortunes. In addition to supposedly bringing disease, they were also believed to be capable of taking control of the human mind and tempting people into wicked or obscene acts, such as drunkenness.
One method of protecting oneself from a czart was to kill a magpie and hang it inside the house - “a magpie, because it resembles a czart: it is black and constantly cries out.”
Bieses took the form of horned beasts, bearing little resemblance to the modern image of the Devil. The bies was described as a four-legged monster with a massive body covered in fur or short bristles, and a head crowned with antler-like horns, resembling those of a deer. Its thick, powerful neck made it appear almost as though the beast had no neck at all, giving it a distinctive posture.
