uruchan - Ability Deep Dive: Command
About This Title
Hey all!
Hope you’ve all been well! I’m on a slight production break and currently recharging, but I have another quick lore drop for you all!
This one is about Orrin’s Command ability. This will help further explain the most recent episodes 382-392, as well as 313-316 (Arlo and Kass vs Spectre HQ.)
To start, Orrin’s Command ability is an impressive 8.6, making him the second-most powerful known character in unOrdinary. This places him ahead of both John and Sera, with only Jane ranking above him.
His ability has a variety of uses and mechanics, which I’ll go through from the simplest to the most complex (lowest to highest cost.)
Passive: Orrin’s passive makes him very persuasive and charismatic. It’s very easy for him to sway people onto his side, but nobody really knows why :\
Mental Link: Orrin forms a mental link with his target, allowing him to access their minds and inject minor thoughts of his own. Direct eye contact and a voice trigger are required to establish the mental link. Mental Link is the foundation for all of his techniques; without this connection, none of his other mental abilities can be used effectively.
Command: Orrin is able to inject commands directly into his target’s mind. These commands must be limited to a single word, but are nearly impossible to resist due to the high level he has attained with his ability. Direct commands also have a range limit. If Orrin is too far from his target, he cannot issue an effective command.
Orrin can also impose conditions on his targets, like he did with Kayden in Episode 311. These conditions must involve a simple, non-intrusive action. But unlike direct commands, they have virtually no range limit, and are relatively low-cost. As long as Orrin has sufficient aura available, the imposed condition must be fulfilled.
Puppeteer: Orrin is able to command unconscious bodies of targets with whom he has previously formed a Mental Link. Because his target is unconscious, there is no mental resistance, allowing Orrin to issue simple commands and control them at will. Aura cost depends on the level of his puppet and the number of puppets under his control.
Possession: Orrin’s most powerful technique allows him to directly possess one of his linked targets. It’s also his most expensive technique, since he has to suppress his target and transfer his entire consciousness into their body. Possession has a range limit, with the aura cost increasing the farther away the target is. Once successful, Orrin can use the possessed body as if it were his own, ability and all. The higher the level of the possessed body, the more the aura it costs.
Possession is a particularly risky technique to use. While in this state, Orrin’s original body becomes unconscious, meaning he must position it somewhere safe where it can be protected. While it isn’t strictly required, Orrin’s extensive knowledge of the fundamentals of abilities is also really helpful here. It allows him to understand and effectively use whatever ability his target has. While using the target’s ability, Orrin also burns through their aura, often at a faster rate than he would his own. Because of this, a pretty realistic strategy would be for Orrin to possess a powerful target, use their ability until their aura is completely drained, and then take them out once they’re empty.
Other: On top of all this, Orrin also has an enormous pool of mental aura, which when expelled, generates an overwhelming wave of psychic force that can disarm his opponents. He can also use this immense mental strength defensively, essentially creating a mental force field around himself.

So far, in seasons 1 and 2 of unOrdinary, we’ve focused mostly on physical abilities. Although they may be flashy and impressive, mental abilities can sometimes be even more devastating. It’s also why I’m having so much fun writing this newest season xD
Other examples of mental abilities: Memory Recall (Keon), Paralysis (Tarik), Hypnosis (Farrah), Sensory Control (Sylvia), and Telekensis (Vaugh).
That’s all I have to share for now! Hope that was enjoyable and deepened your understanding of the world a little bit more! I do enjoy writing these, so I’ll try my best to find time to do more!
Thanks for reading! :D
