About This Title

Bloomberg reports that Airbus virtually halted production of the A330 NEO for 3 months due to quality problems with the aircraft's tail. Only one plane was delivered in the June, July, August period when deliveries probably should have been 12 or so over that timeframe.

The delay in Airbus A330neo deliveries stems from an isolated manufacturing quality issue where a stray tool was discovered inside the aircraft structure of a horizontal tail plane. The problem came to light during a routine pre-delivery inspection. Because the horizontal tail plane (the stabilizer controlling the aircraft's pitch and nose angle) is manufactured at Airbus's Spanish facilities, the discovery forced the company to pause and conduct extensive quality checks across all A330neo jets moving through the production line. This creates a risk of Foreign Object Damage (FOD), which companies carefully monitor to prevent loose objects from interfering with safe flight operations.

Airbus has confirmed that the root cause has been identified and that deliveries are now progressively resuming, noting that the issue was isolated and has not affected any A330neos currently in active service.
