tomcartos - Tom Cartos Pricing Changes - What You Need To Know

infoAbout This Title

Hi Everyone!

Some of you may already know from my TC Modern page, the news, or from other creators you follow, that all Patreon Creators on the 'Per Creation' model (which this patreon page is currently on) are being forced to change to the 'Per Month' subscription model later this year. I won't go into it now, but the TLDR is Apple are throwing around their corporate weight and Patreon are being forced to acquiesce. You can read more about it here.

We made the switch over on TC Modern at the end of last month with no issues, and will be making the switch here on October 6th.

I have tried to cover all the relevant info below, but please let me know if you have any questions or concerns and I will do my best to answer them. If there are any reoccurring questions I will update this post with the answers.

What does this mean for existing Patrons/Subscribers?

First of all, nothing will be changing for current patrons. If you are already subscribed as a paying member on October 5th, you will be locked in to the current pricing and subscription model. Whatever you pay for this month's subscription is what you will continue to pay going forwards, so long as you don't cancel your subscription or change tier.

This also applies to any new patrons who sign up before October 6th, so if you have been thinking about joining or upgrading your tier, do so before the deadline to take advantage of the current prices and the option to limit your pledge.

When is the Price Change happening?

As mentioned above, I will be making the switch to 'Per Month' on October 6th 2026

What is the difference between 'Per Creation' and 'Per Month'?

The current 'Per Creation' model charges patrons every time the creator releases a 'paid' post, which I currently do 5 times per month.

For example if you are on the $3 tier and I release 5 paid posts, your default charge at the end of the month would be $15. However 'Per Creation' allows patrons to set a pledge limit. You could choose to limit your pledge to 1x or 2x per month, and only be charged $3 or $6 for exactly the same content.

The 'Per Creation' model therefore allowed creators better flexibility for their release schedule (only charging when they make something) and more importantly allowed patrons to be flexible with how much they want to or can afford to support the creator each month.

The 'Per Month' model is just a flat monthly fee depending in your tier, similar to what you would pay for Netflix or Spotify. This has the benefit of being simpler, but allows much less choice and freedom for both creators and patrons.

What are the new Tier Prices going to be?

New tier priced are based on the current average pledge cap for each tier. The new tier prices from October 6th will be as follows:

Traveller - $5.00/month*

Adventurer - $12.00/month*

Forgemaster - $18.00/month*

Creator - $50.00/month*

Emperor - $100.00/month*

*plus sales tax/VAT depending on your location

Will this affect the content I receive?

No, there will be no change to the content I release or that your chosen tier is eligible for or has access to.

Is this a Good Thing or a Bad Thing?

I outlined what I believe are the advantages of Per Creation already, and I feel it is a real blow to the community as a whole to lose them. To me, they embody the core principle of Patreon, which was set up to give creators the freedom to grow and build a business in their own way while allowing their fans to support them however they chose.

The advantages of the switch are that it will unlock a lot of options that have previously not been available such as Free Trial Memberships, Discounted Annual Subscriptions, Gift Memberships, Temporary Offers and a few others that will still provide all of you as patrons different ways to support us based on your budget and preferences.

My hope is that the impact to us as creators and all of you as subscribers is as minimal as possible so we can continue making fun stuff.

That's all the info for now. As I said, please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns. I'll send out reminders about the changes as we get closer to the switchover.
