Killermcknight - For those curious about the OFAH Copyright situation on YouTube
About This Title
Hey guys, Stephen here, Let's get frustrated!
here’s the short version of the absolute copyright circus we’ve been dealing with.
The original OFAH upload received a scheduled copyright takedown and was supposed to be removed on September 11. That never happened. Instead, YouTube Support later told us the takedown request may have been incomplete and that YouTube was waiting for additional information from the claimant. 14th YouTube Support
Since then, the “countdown” has basically stopped behaving like a countdown. It went from 3 days remaining, to 9 days, then 10, then 11, and now it says 13 days until removal while still telling us the video should have been deleted before September 11. YouTube Support actually told us to contact them again if the timer changed, and when it did, they escalated the issue to an internal team for review. Here’s the weirdest part: we re-uploaded the OFAH reaction, BBC Studios claimed the new upload… and then released the claim.
So right now we have a new version that BBC has released, while the old version is still stuck in this bizarre pending-takedown limbo.
We’re being cautious because we really don’t want to risk a copyright strike on the channel just for the sake of rushing the upload out. We know it’s frustrating, trust us, it’s frustrating the hell out of us too, but we’d rather wait a little longer and protect the channel than make a bad move that causes bigger problems.
The good news is that things are moving in a much better direction now, and we’re hoping we can finally get this OFAH reaction out to you properly very soon.
Thanks for being patient with us while YouTube and copyright law continue their ongoing mission to make our lives as confusing as humanly possible.
The especially frustrating part is that we actually needed the original video to be taken down and the copyright strike to be applied before we could use YouTube’s counter-notification process. That counter-notification is the legal process we can use to challenge the removal and potentially have the video reinstated.
YouTube Support confirmed that while the video is still sitting in this “scheduled for removal” state, we cannot submit the counter-notification yet. We have to wait for the takedown to actually happen first. 14th YouTube Support
So every time the removal countdown gets pushed farther into the future, it also pushes back our ability to challenge the takedown and start the process of getting the video released. That’s why the timer going from 3 days, to 9, to 10, to 11, and now 13 days has been such a problem, we’ve essentially been stuck in copyright limbo. Now that we got back OFAH, I'll be pursuing Fawlty Towers next.
Hope you enjoyed the long rant about our Copyright woes.
