About Buildings & Cities - 141.5 — Language Trilogy Bonus
About This Title
In the bonus episode for our ongoing Language Trilogy, Luke and George discussed two short critical essays. The first, 'Heavenly Mansions: An Interpretation of Gothic' is from John Summerson's collection of the same title, and suggests that an important aspect of classicist architectural decoration, the aedicule, persisted from antiquity into medieval architecture, a then radical statement of the continuity between classical and gothic culture. The second essay, Manfredo Tafuri's L’Architecture dans le Boudoir: The Language of Criticism and the Criticism of Language) from 1974 is an inscrutable takedown of various contemporary architects, including Jim Stirling. The language finale on Jencks will be out very soon, and then on to pastures new! Thanks as always for your support.
