Enilria - JetBlue Deletes 2 Days of Flights in Error
About This Title
ViewFromTheWing.com flagged this story which popped up on Reddit. It looks like yesterday JetBlue deleted their whole schedule for October 13th and 14th in error. This type of thing actually happens all the time as a new schedule is loaded, but it was different this time because:
It is usually only momentary as the schedule load transitions, but this was apparently hours long
It was so long that passengers reported that automated reaccom moved them to flights a day before or a day after.
From working with schedule changes very frequently over the years I would guess they filed something invalid in their schedule for these two days and the system kicked it out. I’ve seen it happen with unrecognized aircraft types (sometimes airlines use different type codes on the planning side that aren’t recognized in the live system resulting in zero inventory), incorrectly applied effective/discontinue dates, invalid flight numbers (some scheduling systems use letters in flight numbers for planning alternate scenarios), or GDS training staff loading dummy flights that overwrite real flights.
I’ve never seen it happen on this large a scale before.
