La cosa che mi colpisce di più guardando questa serie è quanto sia evidente l’emozione di Nerea.

All’inizio c’è ancora quella sua delicatezza un po’ timida, fatta di piccoli gesti di protezione, sorrisi appena accennati, sguardi che sembrano chiedere alla fotocamera il tempo necessario per capire come stare dentro quell’immagine.

Poi, fotografia dopo fotografia, Nerea comincia a prendere confidenza con ciò che vede di sé, con il modo in cui la luce la racconta, con la possibilità di mostrarsi senza dover interpretare un personaggio diverso da quello che è.

Ed è questo che rende il set così speciale per me: assistere al momento in cui scopre una nuova dimensione della propria immagine e comincia, poco alla volta, a riconoscersi anche lì.

Sono fotografie intime, dolci, sincere. E acquistano ancora più significato sapendo che questa è la prima volta in cui Nerea sceglie di mettere la propria figura così completamente al centro della fotografia, senza quasi nulla che possa distogliere lo sguardo da lei.

What strikes me most when I look back at this series is how clearly you can see Nerea’s emotions in every frame.

At first, there’s still that slightly shy delicacy of hers: small protective gestures, tentative smiles, and looks that seem to ask the camera for just a little time to understand how she wants to exist inside the image.

Then, photograph after photograph, something starts to shift. Nerea grows more comfortable with the way she sees herself, with the way the light shapes her image, and with the idea of showing herself without having to become anyone other than who she already is.

That’s what makes this set so meaningful to me: watching her discover a different side of her own image and gradually begin to recognize herself there too.

These photographs feel intimate, gentle and sincere. And they carry even more weight knowing that this was the first time Nerea chose to place herself so completely at the centre of the frame, with almost nothing distracting the eye from her.

Buongiorno miei carissimi FANATICs!

Questo set, per me, è probabilmente uno dei momenti più importanti di tutto lo shooting con Nerea.

Riguardando oggi le fotografie, mi accorgo di quanto sia chiaro il punto in cui cambia il suo rapporto con quello che stavamo facendo. La sua timidezza rimane, fa parte del suo modo di essere, ma da quel momento comincia a capire che può stare dentro questo tipo di fotografia sentendolo davvero suo.

Si vede nei gesti, nel modo in cui guarda la fotocamera, nel modo in cui controlla sempre meno ogni movimento e comincia invece a fidarsi maggiormente di ciò che vede nelle immagini.

Questa è anche una delle ragioni per cui guardo il set con particolare affetto: da qui in poi Nerea ha iniziato a trovare davvero una sua dimensione in questo tipo di fotografia.

Nei lavori successivi quella sua delicatezza non è mai scomparsa, e per fortuna. È cambiato però il modo in cui affrontava i set: è diventata molto più propositiva, più consapevole di quello che voleva provare e molto più presente nella costruzione delle immagini.

Per me questo set rappresenta il momento in cui comincia a riconoscere questo linguaggio fotografico come qualcosa che può appartenerle davvero.

Ed è uno dei motivi per cui, a distanza di tempo, queste fotografie continuano a piacermi così tanto.

Good morning my dear FANATICs!

For me, this is probably one of the most important moments from the entire shoot with Nerea.

Looking back at the photographs now, I can clearly see the point where her relationship with what we were creating begins to change. Her shyness is still there — it’s part of who she is — but from this moment on, she starts to understand that this kind of photography can genuinely feel like her own space too.

You can see it in the gestures, in the way she looks at the camera, and in how she gradually stops overthinking every movement and begins to trust what she sees in the images.

That’s also one of the reasons I feel so attached to this set: from this point onward, Nerea really began to find her own place within this kind of photography.

That delicacy of hers never disappeared in the later shoots, and I’m glad it didn’t. What changed was the way she approached them. She became much more proactive, more aware of what she wanted to try, and much more involved in building the photographs with me.

To me, this set marks the moment when she begins to recognize this photographic language as something that can genuinely belong to her.

And that’s one of the reasons these images still mean so much to me when I look back at them today.
