About This Title
I still can't go into details about what my new novel The Danse is about...except to note that it will be coming out July 6th...but I can say this much: it's set during the early 1900s, a lot of it is based on historical events and places, and it's kind of a travelogue. It was essential to me to make sure I got the feeling of the time correct, so I downloaded a bunch of reference photos just to keep me tonally in line with the period. I did much the same when I wrote Changeling, which was set a bit later.
These are just a handful of the images I downloaded for purposes of inspiration...places that readers will encounter in the book itself. I find the period from about 1910 to 1920 endlessly fascinating, the tremendous excess of some places, like amusement parks, and the stuffy, formal attitude taken toward shopping and expensive hotels.
Sharing what I can, small as it may be, until I can share more of it closer to the book's publication.
