The Incubus System Chapter 1551. Primordial Nephilim

The question was different this time. The voice had changed. Not in volume. In feeling. There was something beneath it that hadn't been there before. Something almost painfully curious.

“You are feared,” it continued. “You are hunted. Your existence is rejected. Yet they approach you willingly.”

I studied the enormous eye.

“We are the same and they know what you are. They know what you have done. Still, they embrace you.” Its tentacles slowly curled inward. “Why?”

I didn't immediately answer.

Because beneath the absolutely horrifying physical appearance, the creature sounded… Lonely.

I looked at its immense body. Then down at myself. There were several obvious reasons why women might prefer cuddling me over that thing.

For starters, I possessed arms. Normal-sized arms. A face. A body that didn't occupy half a dimension. Even in my Nephilim form, with my wings and horns, I still looked fundamentally humanoid. This thing looked like an ancient nightmare had swallowed a galaxy and developed tentacles afterward.

I wanted to say.

‘Which part of us is supposed to be the same?!’

But I held myself back. Somehow.

“We're clearly different species,” I said instead.

The enormous eye narrowed. “We are the same.”

I frowned. “No, we're really not.”

“We are.” The repetition was calm. Certain.

I glanced around the endless void. “You're going to have to explain that.”

For several seconds, the creature remained silent. Then its tentacles began moving. Slowly, enormous currents of darkness parted around its body.

Beyond them, three distant lights appeared. One was blue. One was gold. One was crimson. They hung impossibly far away, separated by vast expanses of shifting darkness.

I recognized them without understanding how. The Human World. The Light Dimension. The Demon World. The creature hovered between them… Not belonging to any.

Its giant eye remained fixed on me. “You and I are not meant for the three realms. You belong to none of them.”

I felt a cold sensation crawl along my spine.

The creature continued. “Human. Demon. Angel. You carry their forms, their power, their blood. Yet none can claim you completely.”

I didn't answer.

“You cross boundaries that should remain closed. You survive where your existence should be impossible.” One massive tentacle stretched toward the three distant lights. “I exist between them.” Its pupil contracted. “And so do you.”

I looked at the three realms. Then back at the creature. For the first time since arriving, I wasn't thinking about its appearance. I was thinking about its words.

Because there was something disturbingly familiar about them. Something that sounded far too close to the things Aurelion had said about my existence. But there was one important difference. Aurelion spoke as though I were a mistake. This creature… This creature sounded as though it had finally found someone it could recognize.

I slowly lowered my arms. “Are you saying you're like me?”

The giant eye remained motionless. Then its voice filled the void once more. “I am saying…” Every tentacle stopped. “…that I have been alone for a very long time.”

I stared at it.

For several seconds, I genuinely didn't know what to say.

A creature larger than an entire city, covered in countless tentacles and possessing an eye that could probably stare through the foundations of reality itself, had just admitted it was lonely.

And somehow, I understood.

Not completely, obviously.

I had never experienced the particular inconvenience of being a gigantic cosmic abomination living between dimensions.

But rejection?

Yeah, that part was painfully familiar.

I folded my arms and looked up at its enormous eye. “Are you a Nephilim too?”

The creature didn't answer.

Its vertical pupil remained fixed on me while several enormous tentacles moved lazily through the surrounding darkness. The movement disturbed the distant streams of gold and crimson light, sending ripples across the strange space.

I waited. Nothing. “Hello?”

“I was once part of all the realms.”

My eyebrows rose. “So… you're the first Nephilim?”

That was the most reasonable conclusion I could reach. Well, reasonable by my current standards. Which had become rather questionable ever since I discovered my family tree apparently contained enough drama to destroy several civilizations.

A being connected to all three realms? Rejected by all three? Existing outside their boundaries? Sounded suspiciously familiar. Maybe this thing was the original version of whatever I had become.

A primordial Nephilim. Or something even older.

The enormous eye tilted slightly. “I am older than whatever name you have spoken.”

I blinked. That was an answer. “Fine. Older than Nephilim. Got it.”

Its pupil narrowed.

I couldn't tell whether that meant approval, annoyance, or the cosmic equivalent of rolling its eye. Honestly, having only one eye must make facial expressions incredibly inconvenient. I exhaled. “So what do you want from me?”

The creature remained motionless. Then its voice filled the void. “You have chosen your path.”

My expression slowly hardened. “What about it?”

“The war will be unavoidable.”

I didn't interrupt.

“Your fate as a chaosmaker is sealed.”

I stared. Then pointed at myself. “Chaosmaker?”

“Yes.”

I let out an incredulous breath. “Seriously?”

The creature watched me.

“I finally decide to stand up for myself, stop apologizing for existing, and refuse to let some ancient king murder me because he hates my bloodline. And now I'm a chaosmaker?”

“You will disturb the balance.”

“What balance?” My voice sharpened. “The balance where angels get to invade my world, attack my people, and judge everyone beneath them while I'm expected to smile and behave?”

The creature said nothing.

I stepped forward. “I'm not starting a war because I'm bored. I'm protecting myself. If Aurelion leaves me alone, I have no reason to attack him. Yet he will not.”

The enormous pupil contracted. “And you will not surrender.”

I clenched my jaw. No. I wouldn't.

The creature's tentacles slowly curled around its immense body. “The fate of creatures like us is the same.”

I looked up.

“We cannot belong to a realm. They will reject us because our existence does not fit within their order. Rejection becomes fear. Fear becomes hostility. Hostility becomes war.” Its voice grew quieter. “Eventually, we must find somewhere beyond their reach. A place where no one cares what we are.”
