Translator-Sama - Chapter 39: Princess of Poseidon
infoAbout This Title
Poseidon's proposal immediately put Axis on edge. 'Damn it, this bastard actually has a solid plan!'
No wonder Poseidon had bestowed high-tier divine magic and offered a priesthood the moment they met.
However, Poseidon's logic was flawless. It was the optimal solution—unless Axis's current patron, Goddess Athena, was willing to marry beneath her station.
But Athena marrying a mortal carried massive implications. First and foremost, it would undoubtedly alert Zeus, something Athena desperately wanted to avoid. At least for now, the King of the Gods needed to remain completely in the dark.
"Poseidon, you know perfectly well that if her power reaches the divine level, Axis will be unable to bring her back to this world," Athena countered. "Your plan is fundamentally flawed. If your daughter—whomever she may be—follows Axis to that world, claims an authority, and ascends to godhood as a mortal, Axis will be powerless to bring her back."
"Patience, my dear niece. I was not finished," Poseidon smiled smoothly. "Who said she must ascend to true godhood in that world first? As long as she steals a minor, localized authority, she can return to our world safely. Then, as a God King, I shall officiate their wedding and invite the necessary divine witnesses. Uranus's blessing will descend, granting the boy his Olympian blood. Once that is done, we shall conquer that world entirely."
"Oh? Then why not just grant your daughter a divine seat immediately?" Athena retorted sharply. "You must have a few vacant priesthoods in the oceanic realm."
It was a right inherent to a God King. While Zeus held the highest status, strength, and authority among the three brothers, Poseidon and Hades possessed absolute autonomy over their respective realms. They could freely grant divine titles and priesthoods within the ocean and the underworld without seeking Zeus's permission.
"I am aware. I could elevate my daughter to a minor sea deity right now, marry her to the boy, and summon Uranus's blessing to grant him Olympian blood," Poseidon conceded. "That would allow him to steal that world's power immediately. But if I did that, how could I guarantee you would uphold our agreement? Once it is over, how do I know you will surrender the supreme authorities of the ocean, storms, and lightning to me? You could use that power to become the equivalent of two God Kings, perhaps even surpass us entirely. I would be powerless to stop you."
Poseidon was no fool. Axis was a phenomenal investment, but he refused to play by Athena's rules when his own rights and benefits were completely unprotected.
"Your daughter will be married to the boy. He will be your son-in-law. Is that not enough?" Athena pressed.
"Do not speak to me of family ties, Athena. Are you and your father of one mind?" Poseidon scoffed.
Among the Greek gods, familial affection was a myth. Their father, Cronus, had overthrown their grandfather, Uranus. In turn, the three brothers had overthrown Cronus. Zeus even lived in constant paranoia of his own children. In Greek mythology, family bonds were utterly worthless. Poseidon's daughters were obedient to him now, but who could guarantee they would remain so once they gained ultimate power?
"Poseidon, you do not even trust your own daughter?" Athena asked, her tone dripping with disdain.
"Lord Poseidon, I agree to your proposal," Axis interrupted smoothly. "Allow me to take your daughter to the ocean world. I will assist her in seizing an authority and return her exactly as you request."
There was nothing left to debate. Poseidon's power vastly outmatched Athena's, and Athena alone could not guarantee Axis a safe ascension to godhood. He had to take the gamble.
'Thank the gods I didn't come to Poseidon first,' Axis thought with a chill. 'This old fox offers incredible gifts, but his greed is bottomless.'
"Haha, I knew you would agree, young man. Then it is settled," Poseidon grinned in satisfaction. "When will you take my daughter to the new world?"
"In three months, Lord Poseidon," Axis replied. "My multiversal travel operates on a strict cooldown."
He still needed to explore two other worlds before he could return to One Piece. 'You'll just have to wait, my dear Lord Poseidon!'
"Very well. It is merely a matter of time. I can wait," Poseidon smiled. He gestured grandly toward the inner halls. "Now, allow me to introduce you to my daughter."
He led Axis and Athena deep into the palace, arriving at a wildly extravagant bedchamber.
"Speaking frankly, if you hadn't offered such incredible returns, I would never bear to part with her. She is my most precious treasure," Poseidon's voice softened slightly. "Come out, my daughter. Meet our guests."
A delicate young woman with flowing brown hair and bright eyes stepped out from the luxurious chambers. She wore a sheer, blue gauze robe. However, her attire left Axis utterly dumbfounded.
It was an outfit that defied description, bearing a striking resemblance to the scandalous attire favored by Aphrodite.
'Well,' Axis thought, 'the Princess's outfit is certainly... pleasing to the eye.'
'My Lord Poseidon, you have rendered me completely speechless.'
"I truly did not expect this, my dear uncle. To think you fathered a daughter with Aphrodite," Athena remarked, shooting Poseidon a look of profound contempt.
"Is there a problem? Aphrodite bore children for Ares; what is so shocking about her bearing a daughter for me?" Poseidon replied casually.
This was his most beloved daughter. If it weren't absolutely necessary to secure the boy's complete loyalty, he would never have offered his little sweetheart! He was genuinely reluctant to see her go.
"F-father! C-can I please change into something else?" the young woman asked, biting her lip shyly.
Earlier that day, her father had ordered her to dress in this exact manner, claiming he had an incredibly important guest to meet. Were these two the guests?
"Do not be afraid. Come here and meet my guests," Poseidon beckoned warmly. He turned to Axis and Athena, puffing his chest with pride. "This is the daughter I share with the Goddess of Love."
"I... I greet my Lords," the Princess murmured, bowing her head.
Clearly, the little princess had absolutely no say in her own life, caught between her father, a God King, and her mother, the infamous Goddess of Love.
Axis stared at her, a sudden realization dawning on him. 'Wait a minute. No wonder she looks so familiar! Isn't she the Poseidon Princess Kratos brutally murdered in God of War 3?'
'This poor girl.'
In the original game, she was the exact same princess Kratos used as a literal doorstop, tying her to a massive crank wheel and leaving her to be crushed to death just to keep a gate open.
Poseidon's proposal immediately put Axis on edge. 'Damn it, this bastard actually has a solid plan!'
