shinyheartbeats - HOTEL LEX - FLOOR 5 (24/?)

infoAbout This Title

Your brain races and you're not sure what to say. You open your mouth but nothing comes out.

"W-We're trying to get to t-the third floor," Emmett manages to say in a shaky voice.

The Baron turns to face Emmett who nervously tugs at his shirt and avoids eye contact.

"Third floor, is it? Well I must say you have made a couple of wrong turns then. Shall I walk you back to where you made that mistake?" The Baron turns and begins walking.

You and Emmett exchange looks. Of all the people to run into, it had to be the Baron. Both of you quickly follow behind him as he glides along the pavement like a ghost. You aren't sure what to say; if you say something out of line, he might be suspicious of you. But you think back to what Mother said and only toys that have been around long enough know who he really is. So how do other toys view him? Maybe it would be best to ask who he is? You catch up to walk beside him and in a quiet but inquisitive tone, you ask him what kind of toy he is.

"I am not a toy; I am a toymaker," he responds in a droll voice.

You quickly follow up by saying you've never seen a non-toy before and look back at Emmett, who gets the message and immediately nods.

"Consider this your lucky day."

You and Emmett walk beside him in silence after that. He brings you two to a lamp post but it's a different one than you recognize. He then heads toward a nearby subway entrance and you and Emmett can't do anything but to follow. You all descend onto a quiet platform where some other toys are waiting. You peer over at them, trying to get a gauge on how they feel about the toymaker but no one seems to be paying him any mind. You make frequent glances at Emmett who nervously shrugs every time you do. It's a good thing you both are toys, lest the toymaker take an interest in you. Lights on the ground begin to flash as a toy subway car speeds into sight. The doors open into a well-lit car decently filled with people and you shuffle in to grab onto a pole and Emmett before the train kicks into motion and speeds off. You wonder where you'll be once you exit the subway; you might be on the complete opposite side from where you were headed. Lex's words ring in your ears. This couldn't have been a worse outcome for you. You wrestle with your thoughts and finally ask the Baron which direction is to the Clocktower after exiting the subway. He looks at you curiously.

"Why is a toy like yourself looking for the Timekeeper?" His ears perk up ever so slightly, clearly intrigued.

You swallow and say that you're looking to get a watch fixed, hoping it would suffice as an answer. He looks at you with a piercing gaze.

"Then our journeys do not part ways for I am headed there."

You gulp, not sure if this is a net positive or net negative. Had you made it to the Timekeeper and the Baron showed up, who would know what would have happened? But now, with the Baron accompanying you, will it be safe to try and get the pocketwatch fixed? The car pulls to a stop and the Baron steps off. You follow him, his tall figure easy to spot amongst the toys beside him. For some reason, it seems that no one is paying him any mind at all. In fact, the toys seem to part just a little before him so as not to bump into him. He walks you through an alley and makes a left into a long corridor with pictures of many faces and toys lining the wall, each one with eyes that follow you. You all step out into an opening where you spot an escalator that has been cordoned off with caution tape.

You approach a dimly lit space behind the escalator. There is a stark lack of patrons wandering around here and you can sense a slightly ominous energy drifting through the air. The stores surrounding are all empty and closed except for one where a steady ticking echoes. You look up at a large pendulum swinging from side to side behind a glass case, just above an entrance. There, the words 'CLOCKTOWER' are printed in brass lettering. The Baron walks up to the glass door and holds it open. "After you."

> Make an excuse to step away for a moment.> Enter the CLOCKTOWER.
