seananmcguire - The house always wins.
About This Title
(Image: A caliby Maine Coon stretched out on a table, head on her forepaws, looking sleepily at the camera.)
Today in "posts I didn't want to make, but kind of need to, because it's important information to share in a solid, non-ephemeral place, fuck I miss Livejournal," things are kinda chaotic around here right now, and it's something that is and will continue to influence everything else that's going on with me. So:
Mom has had a major stroke.
She lives with me, and for the last several years, our agreement has been that she cleans and drives, and doesn't pay rent or bills. In one of the most expensive areas in the country, this has been a pretty good deal for both of us. But obviously, she can't be doing those things anymore. She's currently in skilled nursing, re-learning how to walk, talk, and get in and out of cars. She may never drive again. She knows it, too: it's terrifying, for all parties involved.
I, meanwhile, am suddenly solely responsible for caring for the house, the cats, and myself, which is taking up a lot of mental cycles I had worked very hard to protect. She's my mother and she needs me, and I'm going to do what's required of me, but doing that and keeping on top of words is difficult; for me to work, I have to be able to force a level of active disassociation that's hard when someone needs you as badly as she's going to, or when you're fielding constant calls from the hospital.
Bluntly put, I'm tired, and I'm asking for patience while we learn to navigate this horrible new situation.
Thank you all.
