Artcard_gav - Rosehip Painting Tutorial
About This Title
Hello, my dear Patrons!
I’m happy to share a little tutorial on painting rosehips with you!
I spotted this beautiful rosehip bush in my neighborhood and couldn’t help taking a thousand photos of it for painting references. And finally, I had a chance to sit down and paint these lovely berries!
I’ve attached my reference photos, so feel free to use them for your own paintings, too.
This is a simple sketchbook exercise rather than a fully composed painting. I mainly wanted to practice painting the berries and explore their colors, without worrying too much about creating a finished piece. But who knows — maybe I’ll come back to this subject later and create a more finished painting with leaves as well!
I haven’t prepared a copy of my sketch for you this time because I’d love for you to practice sketching, too. Learning how to observe a plant and build up its structure is an important skill, and it’s just as valuable as practicing watercolor techniques!
Materials I used
Paper: Hahnemühle sketchbook, 100% cotton cold-pressed paper
Watercolors:
Deep Sap Green — Daniel Smith
Green Earth — Schmincke
Cascade Green — Daniel Smith
Carmine — Daniel Smith
Organic Vermilion — Daniel Smith
Hansa Yellow Deep — Daniel Smith
Lavender / King's Royal Blue by DS
Payne’s Grey — Daniel Smith
I hope you enjoy this short and simple tutorial! And if you have any questions, feel free to leave them in the comments. I’d love to hear from you!
