About This Title

I've spent most of the week on RedVault, getting the last bit of testing out of the way for all the OSes. I'm also making sure we have a solid plan for the future, covering everything from security to storefront presence.

So it's a bad week for progress numbers, but with that out of the way, I'm back to rendering as of Thursday morning. With only 33 story-renders this week, the post-editing should be fast.

For previews, let's throw this one in. If you decided to go with crazy for the last episode, who knows what will happen going forward.

Going back to RedVault, as mentioned, it's ready for Windows, Mac, and Linux. If you want to test it this weekend, all prices have been bumped down to the $1 tier, so you should all be able to download and test freely in the launcher.

All the developers listed in the launcher have been given the okay to upload and make their games available. Feel free to give them a friendly reminder if they haven't already.

Anyway, there's a lot more posing to be done, but it's good to get this out of the way. I'll leave the rest of the RedVault stuff at the end while I wrap up the normal progress report.

Have a wonderful weekend again, and I'm silently wondering why the stores have been filled up with Christmas stuff for weeks already.

RedVault installer files (attached below):

Windows:

RedVault_0.2.9_x64-setup

(If you already have it installed, the old version should auto-update on launch)

Mac:

RedVault_0.2.9_aarch64.dmg (Apple Silicon)

RedVault_0.2.9_x64.dmg (Intel)

(For Apple Silicon, you will need to xattr -cr {location}/RedVault_0.2.9_aarch64.dmg)

Linux:

RedVault-0.2.9-1.x86_64.rpm

RedVault_0.2.9_amd64.deb

RedVault_0.2.9_amd64.AppImage

(You Linux users probably already know which package you prefer)

Update notes:

Added support for Linux and Mac

Improved fresh install and patch operations, which should speed up the download and install process significantly on any drive type.

Moved chunk handling server-side, which should reduce the amount of disk storage needed during installation.

Better visualization of the download and install process.

Ability to 'locate' existing games with version recognition to prevent full downloads if you already downloaded the game(s) before.

Updated program dependencies.

RedVault is not in any way interfering with any developers' Steam or GOG plans or versions. Its main job is to distribute and patch games as they are being made in an easy and convenient way for both the developers and players. Games can be played freely from the game library without the use of RedVault once downloaded. RedVault does not interfere with, or touch installed mods (but if existing version-exclusive mods work after a major game patch is another thing altogether).

Please feel free to leave feedback in the comments below, including any feature requests you would like to see, as this is not a once-and-done project and will continue to evolve and improve.

I've decided not to code-sign any of the packages, even though I have an EV code-signing certificate. Why? Because it will still show the "Run Anyway" warning screen and, in addition, display all my company information, including my organization number. To me, that is too much of a privacy intrusion, and with all the weird things going on in the world today, I'd rather not do that. Going forward, I'm targeting getting RedVault on different storefronts directly, where the software is automatically trusted.
