PsyAmb - PsyAmb 158 - Oracular Visions [ Mix Download ]

Greetings ! A dubby mix for you from the laboratory including some new releases, old favourites from the archives, and one distinctly undulating orangutan. This mix brings together eleven excursions into psychedelic dub, ambient dub and psychill, from brand-new arrivals to seasoned travellers from the deeper reaches of the collection.

We open with Motion Drive's Dubalicious, before Pranasonics brings us Coping Dub, from the freshly released Coping Dubs EP, which landed on Bandcamp this month. Based in Germany, Pranasonics has been developing his sound over the past decade, just enjoying the ride and finding inspiration in some of the best known psychedelic dub artists such as Globular, Psybur,Ott and Entheogenic.

Aussie producer Drew Id's "4 Chillies (Frank Booth Remix)" follows, from the fresh new remix project "Interstellar Remixes" out now on Dubmission Records. Holeg Spies and Youth take us on a more ancient-sounding excursion with "Pagans", before Dub Squad's "Ammonite" brings a distinctly Japanese flavour to proceedings. The trio have spent years stirring dub, jazz, ambient electronics and other ingredients into their own groove-conscious, eclectic soup. A don't think they are so active these days, but do check out their back catalogue for some great tunes.

Digitalis offers a chilled breaks moment of reflection with "Figments", before Globular's "The Thermionic Valve Interpretation" arrives from his latest release "Love Letter to a Lost World". The title brings to mind those old vacuum tubes that glowed away inside radios, quietly getting on with their jobs long before anyone thought to put a microchip in everything. The Saafi Brothers provide "Thorn Away", from their 2025 album "A Relaxed Blur" which saw them getting back to their very best, followed by False Identity and Globular's "The Undulating Orangutan". Quite why the orangutan is undulating remains a matter for another investigation, but it seems to be enjoying itself.

The Orb's "Tower Twenty Three", remixed by Spud and Kreature, takes us back to the world of "Bicycles & Tricycles" from 2004. Finally, Ott's "A Nice Little Place", from the much-loved "Mir" album of 2011, offers a suitably comfortable destination to land at. New discoveries, older favourites and dubby diversions, collected for a journey without any particular destination. Put your feet up, let the bass do the navigating, and try not to worry about the orangutan.

I hope you enjoy the journey!
