About This Title

So this unfortunately isn't affecting just the new one, but all Halloween videos, and random videos in the rest of the catalog.

As some of you have already noticed and messaged me, some videos have been vanishing and reappearing with different bits cut, or timestamps being out of place etc. That's because I woke up this morning to discover a bunch of videos have been getting random claims of things, both valid and inaccurate, and also manual and automatic. I was fucking baffled why this is happening out of nowhere, but I've gotten some answers.

I hit a million subscribers recently (fun!) though this appears to have come with a drawback. Apparently due to the rise of AI sludge/scam content that can quickly rise to the top, YouTube has introduced a relatively new process of re-evaluating channels when they hit this mark for doing considerations for things like the other special backend services, the gold play button, etc. Part of this deal appears to be that you're both turned over more to the wolves to have all your content rescanned and you also enter the fun list for triple scrutiny from random scouts scouring videos to try to find things to claim for holders. The first part is annoying because something that may have been fine 5 years ago now has someone claiming a SoundCloud cover of it they made 2 years ago and are trying to grab it. That second part will be ongoing and has always been a part of YouTube (though it'll be trickier now) but the first part is what's biting hard since apparently this "legitimacy evaluation period" can last anywhere from 10-14 days. Doing some test uploads of bits from the new video got sounds in the background claimed as music and right now I'm trying not get another downright strike so I'm having to be careful.

It's fucking awful, but it looks like (assuming something worse doesn't happen) I'm going to have to wait for the heat to die down, which will be anywhere from 10-14 days. So for the first time in many years I won't have the Halloween video up in time for Halloween. This probably feels more devastating to me than it should be, but it does mean letting a lot of people down. The silver lining there is that this was going to be the last of the standalone Halloween videos anyways for "long/eternal Halloween" and instead rotate to doing them more regularly, but this feels like the website itself forcing me out of it rather than doing it on my own terms which feels fucking awful especially when I took time off from work for editing before a friend came down to visit and now I'm bouncing between this and seeing what else will break.

As for the state of the old videos, if you're wondering why some might have entire parts chopped off in the beginning instead of just erased/muted the answer is because I can't since those got manually claimed.

Of course having a video's entire first minute or a long section be silence isn't great either, so it's bad either way. And no it's nothing like Goosebumps was blanketly grabbed or some specific holder is after me, the randomness is what's made it so bizarre until I got answers. Some I -could- dispute on and have on a few that aren't trying to block the video, but my experience with that is they sometimes hold out the entire 30 days before suddenly declining just before to keep anything they gained, or they just wait out the timer entirely, but it means a good chunk of videos that would be blocked in random regions for a month while risking escalation. This isn't something I can really @ TEAMYOUTUBE or whatever either since this seems to be the machine working as intended. Getting a cut done that's unlisted would still be the same problem and this has already burned a stupid amount of time getting things figured out, plus I think the general public would have my head if they thought I was making the Halloween video a PATREON EXCLUSIVE or something else that sounds like I'm being mega shitty. Typically I've been quite careful, even sending emails to ask about things sometimes, but contacts can leave and systems change, so it just means I'll have to be even more cautious from now on though safety for these things is never guaranteed. I of course do have originals backed up, but I'm not sure how to handle those at the moment since right now my brain is spinning at the schedule knock on effect this will have. It might mean I need to delay milk game, or push it into December or even January playing catchup with plans since I can no longer line things up how I planned. I'm mainly worried about something being gone permanently and needing a reupload, since Anonymous Agony got extremely close to that a while back when it was gone a month (though I did win that dispute).

Anyways it fucking sucks and I'm sorry this is happening. I'll figure out what to do about milk game, though I'll update next Friday about my status in YouTube jail. With luck I'll be out and can just upload the thing then and be mostly back on schedule but we'll see. Right now I'm figuring out how to make the public announce, so that'll come later tonight or tomorrow.
