The gods gave Hercules his strength. But strength alone does not make a hero.

A hero confronts monsters. He does not become one.

For centuries, masculinity has been measured in conquest, domination and the capacity to kill. Today, the mythology persists, only the monsters have changed.

Men are sold the image of the hunter, the predator, the conqueror. They are told that flesh is strength, that killing is courage, that consuming the vulnerable is somehow an expression of manhood.

And they’ve been eating it up.

But what courage is required to kill a creature who poses no threat? What strength is demonstrated by overpowering the defenceless? And what kind of protector participates in the suffering of those most in need of protection?

There is nothing heroic about violence against the innocent.

True masculinity needs no victim to prove its worth. It is measured not by the power a man holds over others, but by what he chooses to do with it.

Megara knows the difference between a man who slays monsters and a man who merely behaves like one.

A little mythology, a little mischief, and 64 photographs of a woman with logical standards for her hero.
