I don't think Book One could have ended in a more beautiful and moving way than it did..
It managed to feel HUGE and deeply intimate at the same time. There were giant spirits, massive battles, an entire war... but the quiet moments are what really hit me. The choices people made. The weight they carried. The sacrifices.Princess Yue absolutely broke my heart.She wasn't just losing something, she was giving back the life she'd been entrusted with.And she did it without blinking an eye and with so much grace.The image of her becoming part of the moon was beautiful... and devastating.I shed my first tears in Avatar with this finale And Sokka.. Being strong though all of it made it hurt even more. He's grown so much. They didn't have much time together, but their time was everything looking back now. Sometimes people come into your life exactly when they're meant to, even if they don't stay for long.And Zuko.Every single episode I feel myself getting pulled further into his story. He's still chasing Aang, but it never feels that simple anymore. He has this desperation that's so honest and hard not to sympathize with. His entire identity has become tied to restoring his own honor. I honestly don't think he even knows who he is without that goal. It's so hard not to root for him. To hope that maybe he can eventually find a different path. Not the one given to him by a Father who could care less.And Uncle Iroh. He's quickly becoming one of my favorite characters. He has a moral compass that absolutely refuses to bend. He understands strength better than almost anyone we've met. He knows exactly when not to use it.And Admiral Zhao continues to make my blood absolutely boil. Destroying the Moon Spirit just to win a battle felt like the perfect example of someone so obsessed with victory that they completely lose sight of everything else. The consequences. He was willing to throw the entire world's balance into chaos for his own ambition. He's completely lost the plot and it's terrifying.The war was insane.And I love that Aang tried every peaceful option first.He begged. He reasoned. He searched for any other way. He didn't want to become a weapon even when everyone around him expected him to be one.When he merged with the Ocean Spirit... It didn't feel EPIC and AMAZING. It felt tragic.Nature was grieving. The music, the silence, the towering spirit moving through the water..It didn't feel like a victory lap.
