I've admired these microphones from a distance for many years now, and although I already have a very nice assortment of large diaphragm condensers in the studio, when I saw this pop up on Ebay for a very reasonable price, I just had to grab it!
I set it up, ran it through my Neve 1073dpx pre-amp where I engaged the 50hz low cut filter and rolled some additional low end off under 110hz. You can really drive this mic hard as it has very low self gain, so I pushed the preamp more than I usually am able to, and am very satisfied with this sound. It has just the right amount of natural compression and saturation. It really seems to capture the natural, woody tone of this 1963 Gibson B25n beautifully.. very organic and very much how it sounds in the room.
No further EQ or compression was added in Logic, but I did sprinkle a little room reverb in to sweeten the deal a tad.
What do you reckon guys? I mean, the looks alone are something to behold, but I'm happy to report that the sound does indeed match the aesthetic qualities!
