About This Title
DESCRIPTION
For this month’s bonus tutorial, we’re painting a spooky, cozy storybook landscape at night. This little scene features a witch walking away from her house, with a glowing moon, warm windows, a jack-o-lantern, trees, shadows, and a limited color palette full of purples, browns, grays, and muted orange.
We’ll talk about how to make a landscape feel like nighttime by reusing the same colors throughout the piece, building a strong mood with a limited palette, and thinking carefully about light and shadow. The moon, windows, and jack-o-lantern give us those little glowing areas, while the darker road, trees, fence posts, and cast shadows help the whole illustration feel cozy and atmospheric.
I’ve also included the printable image for you, so you can paint along without having to sketch the scene yourself. This is a fun one for practicing storybook illustration, nighttime color palettes, and those small details that make a simple scene feel full of character.
