MauriceMoves - Complete POTENTIAL Daily Carry

infoAbout This Title

In the main channel video, I showed the five buckets of what might make it into my main all-encompassing sling bag, so in this one, I'll break it all down. Between the 'Work' bucket, the 'Base EDC' bucket, the 'City/Outing Dependent Add-Ons' bucket, and the two different 'YouTube Hobby' buckets. A few extra details and context notes though...

Work Bucket:

Since it gets asked quite frequently, the clip that attaches to my notebook and holds the two Lamy Safari fountain pens, is by a company called 'The Superior Labor', based out of Japan. They sell out quite quickly when they do make it to their international stockists, so there are two options... one, search 'Superior Labor Double Pen Clip + Your City/Country', find the nearest dealer, go to their 'Sold Out' product page, and put your email address to be automatically notified when they do restock.... or two, hop on Etsy and search 'Double Pen Clip' since quite a few folks have made similar products (for much less money) as well.

That receipts folder - since I'm abroad for 5-6 months straight every year, I do not store every receipt in there for the whole trip. That's just daily receipt triage. Once I organize and plug the necessary numbers into my bookkeeping spreadsheet, they go into a separate larger clear plastic envelope. Again, that thin leather one is exclusively for daily receipt storage before I return to my accommodations for the last time at the end of each day.

Base EDC Bucket:

USB Type-C cables are a minefield. For my power bank, I technically only need charging functionality, and the ones by Silkland or INUI that I use all push up to a whopping 240W (which none of my devices need). The 'up to 240W' means that I can't have that much juice going to say, my phone, without potentially damaging my phone's battery, so all cables I buy must also have 'PD' (Power Delivery) capabilities, which means, the cable itself, "talks" to both the charging source and the device itself, to both negotiate how much juice to send, but also, depending on the device, to stop charging even if it's still plugged in, to really maximize battery health and longevity. Beyond that, since I also use external hard drives, the cables I pack also have high-enough-speed data transfer capabilities (at least USB 3.2 standard), since I want to not even think - if I need to plug an external hard drive into my computer, I don't want to guess which cable - 100% of my type-c-to-c cables also push at least 480mb/second in data transfer as well, beyond 'just' PD and high wattage ceilings. Obviously, this is overkill for most... I just dislike making decisions.

City/Outing Dependent Add-On Bucket:

The HydroFlask micro. I can't stress enough how small the capacity is. Just 200ml/6.5oz. I choose it for size and weight and ease of packing PLUS, because I'm always in cities for my travels (or at home in Toronto), potable water is never an existentially scarce resource (yet). If your travels are to rural areas, or if you like going on very far and secluded hikes, you probably already have your own much more suitable water source.

YouTube Filming Hobby Bucket:

If you do make videos or pack a camera for your travels or even home-turf EDC, you may feel the need to get a ridiculously padded protective camera bag and wonder why I don't. This is not an explicit endorsement, but in my experience, camera gear is way more resilient than we give it credit for. I've literally never had a camera or piece of gear break because it wasn't in a bulky foam-padded divider-cubbied camera bag, and especially for travel, those bags add a lot of weight, which, as a healthy-enough-adult wouldn't be an issue for me at this point in my life, but could easily tip the bag's weight over the weight limits of a lot of airlines. Again, this is not an explicit endorsement on any camera gear's durability by me - it's just my reasoning, in case you were wondering why I don't use a dedicated camera-gear bag.

YouTube Editing Hobby Bucket:

If you can help it, at least at the time of publishing this post (Q3 of 2026), the cost of SSD storage of all kinds - camera memory cards, external usb-c drives, internal NVMe computer storage is insane - more than double what it was two years ago, so if you need external storage, it might be worth buying a traditional spinning drive for now. No idea when prices might stabilize (since Ai datacenters and hardware are buying it all up), but if it's "just" backup storage for photos or videos, if I hadn't bought all the drives I showed in the video years ago, there's no way I'd spend what they cost nowadays.
