I SERIOUSLY LOVED THIS ACTION/SPY MOVIE!
It was honestly so much fun! Plus you all already know how I feel about Tom Cruise 🩷Watching him as Ethan Hunt made me understand why this movie is so iconic. He's smart, determined, a little reckless LOL but somehow always three steps ahead.Even when he has absolutely no idea what those steps are yet.For a movie about spies, betrayals, secret lists, double crossing and figuring out who the heck you actually can trust.. What I loved the most was honestly the atmosphere. This movie just felt so cool!? The shadows. The computers (omg the nostalgia that hit me with the floppy discs and cronchy keyboards). The insane spy gadgets. The fish tank restaurant! The TRAIN SCENE. It felt like I stepped inside a time capsule of what 'high-tech' espionage looked like in 1996 and I really adored that.And THE MUSIC!The Mission: Impossible theme song is one of those pieces I've known my entire life without realizing it came FROM THIS MOVIE Hearing it finally used in this movie was soooo satisfying and clicked perfectly! Those first few notes just make everything immediately feel ten time more dangerous and interesting. The idea of TRUST was so incredibly well written, too. Ethan spends so much of this movie trying to figure out what is real, who is lying to him, who he can actually depend on. After awhile, I just went with his facial expression (Tom Cruise is just such a good actor!) and whoever Ethan trusted, I trusted lol. I think that's what had me connecting with his character so quickly.He doesn't just want to survive, he wants the truth.He needs to clear his name and understand what happened to the people he loved.This first movie was INSANE. It has me wishing I had more time right now to watch the rest of this series immediately. But I'm honestly happy to just sit and soak this one in for a bit. Watch it again (& maybe again). Introduce it to my husband bc he hasn't seen this either!
