About This Title

Hiya! Nico here, I just returned home from a long trip to the north of England to meet up with the upcoming composers of WLCW Season 1. Sea Power were lovely, and are officially on-board to compose the music for We Love Cold War Season One !!But that being said, I felt like the pace of WLCW was slowing a bit, I wanted to re-assure everyone and I will be making an active attempt to restart the weekly update posts. For the past two months since the Backerkit, I've largely been overseeing WLCW's production "trying to delegate more responsibilities to a crew of animators".That meant hiring a large staff of contractors to help animate a few backlogged episodes, however, this has proven to be extremely time-consuming to revise work, and more importantly, expensive. We ended up spending nearly $10,000 in the last two months (primarily on animator wages), without much to show for, unfortunately, due to the challenges of scaling up and the difficulties working with freelancers of varying skills and schedules.Animation is completed on a 7-minute long Yvette & Josephine short, however, the backgrounds are incomplete, and we decided to postpone that episode until work could advance further on the Pilot episode we promised everyone for the Backerkit.Oh dear, what a headache... And you'd assume from the radio silence that we just ran off with the money right? Well, alot of work was finished, yet we're still nowhere near the finish line.

So, since I've kind of fucked up as a director and my attempt to streamline the production side of WLCW on a bigger scale has largely failed for now, I'll be doing more weekly updates, posting more sketches, doodles, designs, and more importantly, small snippets of animation to keep WLCW alive even during the long march to finish a full "episode".As we already secured a large enough budget from the Backerkit campaign, I've opted to take direct control over the production, even if it'll take longer for me to personally animate more of the series & shorts myself. We basically had two choices with the Backerkit funds, either dump all of it to produce something quickly to get more stuff done quickly and out in half a year, or keep the money as a fund to just keep up afloat for 1-2 years and slowly chip away at it without worrying about funds. The former option has largely failed for a number of reasons, primarily being that contracted animators are largely unable to meet the quality standards we wanted and costs largely spiralled out of control, so I've decided to take back direct control over the production. The goal is still to release the WLCW Artbook by the end of 2026, as well as the Pilot episode in 2027, as well as to keep our promises on "The British", "The Warsaw Pact", and "The UN" shorts and have those finished and out as soon as possible. Here's a bunch of art I doodled and some other collaborators finished recently. (Including a first look at the Aussie character we have planned!) We have alot in plan for you guys, please remain patient, we're working our hardest. I personally hope to have a new animated short/snippet ready to go by next week.

... That's all for now, I'm still getting readjusted after a fair bit of jetlag from the past week. The animations for WLCW just take a ridiculous amount of time, but doodles take a bit less time, we want to release the best we got rather than rushing stuff just because, especially now that we have the resources to really make this series something special. But, yeah... That's the hard part. I'll try to be more active and communicative, if you guys need anything, feel free to reach out to my email, [email protected] . We are QUITE LIKELY going to be delaying the Backerkit reward fulfillment until late-2027 since we actually need to finish the Pilot before pressing it onto Blu-Ray, like wise with the WLCW Artbook, we wanna get way way more art finished before printing. But if you seriously do have any concerns or doubts, I always offer refunds (for Patreon or Backerkit) if you contact my email expressing dissatisfaction with the work, since everyone here trusts me to deliver and if I can't, then that's on me...But we'll do our best. Sorry for the lack of animation this week, we'll try to get some cooler shit ready for publishing soon.See you guys soon-Nico
