Hello lovely patrons!
PHILOSOPHY TUBE IS COMING BACK! I've found a studio and put together a crew to block-shoot a whole bunch of great episodes in early October! It was a lot of work rebuilding the production machine from scratch but redesigning my creative process has resulted in a production schedule that ought to be much more efficient and sustainable AND produce more videos for you! We’re going to shoot 8 or 9 episodes in two weeks thanks to this new process. I can edit them at my leisure and release them - I hope - once a month over the end of 2026/beginning of 2027! I’m super excited! Here’s the list of working titles:
I Watched Every Episode of Fast & Furious To Learn about Women
The Weird World of Vertical Microdramas
Mister Beast & the Ethics of Philanthropy
Why American Health Insurance is So Weird
A Weird New Way to Solve the Trolley Problem
Private Equity is Out of Control in Hollywood
Plus two Nebula exclusives:
Good Sex Scenes: ‘Love Lies Bleeding’ and the Art of Intimacy on Film
The Accountability Problem
And one extra if I can find time to write it and fit it into the shooting schedule:
The Three Sex Theory
PROJECT 20M[FAMOUS ACTOR] is reading the script so fingers crossed he likes it and agrees to attach! We’re also going to be sending it out to a few studios soon to see what they think. The producers are optimistic.
PROJECT 3MI’m 98 pages in! Nearly done! Had some very interesting chats with some producers about creative ways to get it made as well. I’m inclined to do something scrappy and different with it rather than try to go the slow and traditional Hollywood route.
POWER TRIPNebula’s new movie “Power Trip” had its premiere and is also releasing nationwide in cinemas! Very exciting times for us, I’m thrilled for Patrick and Dave and the whole Nebula family! Since Nebula is owned by the creators, when one us does well we all do well!
WHAT I’VE BEEN WATCHING AND READING
Jessica Valenti’s book Abortion is amazing. Highly recomend!
Kojo Koram’s The Next Fix is very cool too, really expanding my knowledge.
My big theme for this month’s reading has been cybernetics: I read Stafford Beer’s The Brain of the Firm and re-read Dan Davies’ The Unaccountability Machine and they’ve both got my brain fizzing with ideas that you’ll see crop up on Philosophy Tube!
I saw Slayyyter live with my friends Vivian and Morgana, that was a fun night! Viv’s PR team very kindly arranged it, which was lovely of them. The show was good; I think I preferred Slayyyter’s Club Valentine show that I saw in London a few years ago but this was awesome too.
Comedy of Errors in Griffith Park. What a fun night! It’s not one the Shakespeare plays I’m hugely familiar with but I had a great time! Cast were all really strong!
X-Men ‘97 Season 2. I loved Season 1 when it came out so I went back for more. Personally I think X-Men is at its strongest when it’s really chewing on the civil rights subtext so this season with Apocalypse as the villain didn’t quite hit as hard for me but I still had a great time. And my friend Erika turned up to voice Lady Deathstrike, which was a fun surprise!
My friend Nicholas started a new short podcast called “Hijacked” about the history of 9/11 and it’s really good, very thoughtful.
“Ill Conceived” - a podcast about natalism. They’re going from strength to strength on that show, and because they’re American they say some important things that British media can’t! They had a great recent episode on the Jason Arday Affair.
Cramps: A Period Piece. I saw a screening of this feature at Femme Filth Fest and had a great time with it, it’s a comedy about a young girl whose period is a literal flesh-eating monster. It was inspired by the creator’s experience with endometriosis and has the BEST scene of an unhelpful doctor I’ve ever seen! It was preceded by:
Peppermint Pixie Dream Girl: a short film written and directed by Kylie Mungenast. A sweet short about two women, one trans one cis, going on a 1950s dream date, and then things get weird… Highly recommend! Both it and Cramps are currently doing the festival circuit so check them out if they come to a city near you!
WHAT’S INSPIRED ME THIS MONTHRomance Out of the blue, unexpected and delightful. Having shielded myself from Cupid’s arrows for a while that winged SOB finally got me right between the shoulder blades and I’m thankful for it. And therapy! Turns out it’s good! Figuring out my shit so I can turn up and a better friend, daughter, sister, girlfriend, etc
WHAT’S GOT ME STRESSED Finances. Getting all my ducks in a row to shoot this new season of Philosophy Tube means hiring an accountant and that’s gonna cost a lot, plus it’s time consuming getting him all the documents and such he needs. But it’ll be worth it in the end!
