There are many comics out there with a specific agenda on how they want you to think about some cultural, social or political issue. A thesis of sorts. Of course, more often than not it’s less about convincing anyone of anything than it is about validating beliefs already held by its audience.
Not that I’m knocking that! Validation is an important pillar in the growth-based societal mechanism that’s allowed us humans to transform the skyline into an array of manmade structures instead of the trees, mountains and plains that planet earth originally planned on. Regardless of your opinion on our civilization’s terraforming, you have to admit it’s a prettyimpressive feat.
The point is, everybody’s got an agenda. A thesis they want you to buy into. So, what am I trying to say with this walrus parable? Is there a point?
Ah… probably? But if I’m being honest, I’m not 100% on what it is. Perhaps it’s that when you take your role as moral arbiter too seriously, you risk missing the bigger picture. Maybe it’s that caring about anything is a sucker’s game. (I hope not.) Or maybe it’s just that walrus murder is hilarious.
The point is, I’m not trying to tell you how to think or sell you on anything. Unless you count my Patreon! (Wow, that was a long way to go just to get to a subscription plug. Maybe humans do suck.)
