Only this show would think of merging these two tropes into the same episode. I know I give them a lot of flack for Ben's motivation but, honestly, this is a very cute look at his realtionship with Max. I love whenever Gramps gets to actually feel like a grandfather. I'm sure this ep meant a lot to a lot of little kids out there when it first came out.
