aura-dev - Liora's Price of Dignity 0.8.0-prerelease-4
infoAbout This Title
ITCH | MEGA | ITCH-DELUXE | MEGA-DELUXE
This should have been a major update for 0.8.0 but it seems that hasn't worked out. The Noble Date CG is still in production, so instead of writing a scene and either not deploying it or deploying it with black text, I opted for the variant of setting up the noble party date story event and then just going off the plan a bit and spending my time working on the dozen of other little things that need to be done.
It also turned out that the quest Food Chain Trihan was working on isn't finished, technically he gave it to me today, but there was still a lot to work on and while I reworked a lot, it has been a long day so I decided to put an end to it here for the prerelease...
The major update will now happen sometime next month when the CGs arrive. Thanks to the alternating structure and next month being an SKA month, it's not a big problem and all that really changes is that this release is called prerelease instead of not having that word in the release name.
That being said, I hope we can avoid this in the future as it turns a hard deadline into a soft deadline and once that happens, I have learned that over and over again, it will lead to people pushing the deadlines... and suddenly one person being late turns into everyone being late because everything thinks it's not a big problem to delay a release...
Now, on to happier parts like what is actually new. There are roughly speaking 6 main contributions in this week's dev pipeline.
First of all, as mentioned above, the Noble Party Date event has its first story event, which continues basically the meeting event all the way in the early game and is a major milestone for Edgar which garners him quite a bit of Prestige.
The second event is just a dummy however, so you will just get a brief mention of Liora getting Edgar's lap and then the event immediately ends. I still decided to include it because of the gameplay impact: Every Noble Date (triggerable on Earth and Lightdays) gives Edgar +1 Prestige.
The second area of progress is on the voice acting side. While I didn't make a special post on it, Allure gave us a new large batch of voice lines this Tuesday which I integrated on Wednesday. The reason I didn't make a post is because there isn't anything I can put up for preview as all the voice lines are for the Liora and Edgar sex event. It should now be fully voiced (maybe I forgot some subevent for the brief in some variation.)
The third item is for the dungeon crawling: There are now more encounter changes especially in Brightwood as the area level increase. All areas should now up to Area Level 10 have some minor changes on each level up.
Fourth, we have three more batches of unlocks through Town Prosperity: More rank II spells on Town Prosperity 30 and we now also get some new books on prosperity 14 and 28. For 14, I opted to keep it simple and just add some extra stat books into the rotation. In contrast to the previous batch, these provide more stats but also take longer to read, to provide some extra material in case you happen to end up with an afternoon with nothing to do.
The second batch at prosperity 28 is more interesting and supplies Liora with new Teamwork skills. You can now use your advantage to mark enemies for extra damage, giving you a different action of using your advantage besides Strategize. For those who did the extreme choice of selling the right to Strategize Rean, I hope this can provide some alternate decision making space. You can also support your team mates with the new Teamwork skill Bomb Assist that increases the number of thrown bombs based on your relationship. The third book is not for Liora and instead of Edgar/Rean and increases the effect of Attuned, powering up all Teamwork skills.
Then, the last item I worked on was giving Rean a bunch of new diseases. There are now a lot of new ways to trigger Bedridden and as you go over Decay 20, you will get crazier and crazier diseases for Rean to deal with. The diseases go up to an unlock of Decay 30 and from that point onward, there are now only 4 diseases left for me to implement and then we will have them all.
For balancing purposes, I decided to not include diseases from Decay 20+ in NG-. I may change my mind here on where exactly I want to draw the line, but I do know that there should be enough diseases left to unlock with Awakened Infection as I don't want the pool to be emty on game state.
Finally, we have the progress from our assistant developer Trihan on the hunting quest Food Chain. That one I think still needs to cook a bit. I did some very rudimentary playtesting today and reworked major parts I didn't like or that didn't work (like the boss enemy having an ice element phase, when ice as an element doesn't exist in the game...), but since I got it so late and Trihan wasn't available after delivery, the amount of changes I could do until this prerelease was of course quite limited and it's reaching midnight over here, and I still need to follow up on SKA, so I want to call it a day.
