About This Title
THE SPOTLIGHT — $35 USD
THE SCENE — $65 USD
Rin
Important Update — Commission Restructure, Tier Reward Changes & Discord Server LaunchHey everyone, Rin here
First of all — thank you so much for your continued support. Whether you've been here from the early days or just recently joined the dive, every single one of you makes this possible, and I genuinely mean that.
I have a few important updates to share today, so I'll try to cover everything as clearly as I can. Please read through to the end!
Why I'm restructuring my commission pricesThis one is something I've been thinking about for a while, and I want to be honest with you about my reasoning rather than just quietly updating a number on a page.
When I look back at the commissions I've been taking over the past year, I've noticed something happening that I didn't fully anticipate — the time I spend on each piece has been getting longer, not shorter. Not because I've been slower, but because what I'm producing has quietly been getting more detailed. More refined shadows, more considered lighting, more attention to gear accuracy and depth atmosphere. The quality bar I hold myself to has been rising, and my hands have been following it whether I planned it or not.
The issue is that my prices haven't moved with that. What started as a rate that felt fair for where I was a year ago now doesn't reflect the actual hours going into each piece — and I think that imbalance has contributed to the backlog situation many of you have experienced. When pricing undervalues the work, demand naturally exceeds what one person can sustainably deliver. That's not a complaint — it's just the math catching up.
So with that in mind, I'm making some adjustments. Not to reward myself for improving, but to make the work sustainable so I can keep delivering good results to everyone in the queue without burning out or cutting corners.
What's changing — commission menuThe new structure will simplify the menu and reflect the current quality level more honestly:
THE SPOTLIGHT — $35 USD
1 character · half-body to knee-up · full colour & render · minimalistic background (open waters)
THE SCENE — $65 USD
2 characters · knee-up to full body · full colour & render · structured background (caves, shipwrecks, etc) · 2 minor variants included
Custom commissions will also be updated with revised base rates across all size and render combinations. Full details will be available on the updated commission site closer to the effective date.
The Sketch service will no longer be available as a standalone commission — but it will live on as the monthly raffle deliverable for Tier 2 supporters (more on that below).
What's changing — supporter rewardsI want to keep these as meaningful as possible within what's sustainable, so there are some adjustments here too.
Tier 2 — Deeper Depths (¥500/month)
The monthly raffle sketch reward continues! The deliverable remains a sketch-style piece — half-body to knee-up, painter-style loose rendering with rougher linework and simpler backgrounds. Think of it as something expressive and personal rather than a fully polished commission — it has its own charm that way
Tier 3 — Into the Abyss (¥1,500/month)
The milestone reward is shifting from a 3-month to a 4-month consecutive support cycle, with the reward being 1× The Spotlight ($35 value).
I know 4 months sounds longer, and I want to be upfront about the reasoning. At ¥1,500/month over 4 months, you're contributing ¥6,000 toward a piece that's priced at $35 (roughly ¥5,250). That small difference is honestly just the cost of spreading it across months rather than paying in one go — think of it as your own personal commission on a quiet monthly instalment plan. The deliverable quality is exactly the same as a paid Spotlight commission.
When does this take effect? These changes will take effect for new supporters and new commission requests from November 2026 onwards — the exact date will be confirmed in a follow-up post.
If you are already supporting, already on the waitlist, or have an ongoing commission with me — nothing changes for you. Your rates and reward terms stay exactly as they were when you signed up or submitted your request. That's a promise.
Discord server — coming soonAlongside these updates, I'm also launching a dedicated Discord server! It'll serve three main purposes:
Commission Queue & Updates — a transparent, live view of where things stand in the queue, so you're never left wondering about your commission status
Underwater Art Gallery — a community space for sharing underwater-themed artwork, organised by category (gear, suit styles, dive scenarios, and more). Fan art, original work, anything UW-related is welcome
Reference Archive — a curated collection of underwater art references compiled for artists — gear references, lighting studies, environmental photography, and more
More details on the server structure and the invite link will come in a separate post very soon. I'm really looking forward to building a proper space for this community
Thank you again for being here and for your patience through the busy periods. I'll always try to be as transparent as possible about where things stand and why.
See you underwater Rin
