Loot Tavern - [MW Cakewalk] Kiwyvern - CR 4 Small Dragon - $10 Reward
infoAbout This Title
“With the amount of kiwyvern eggs being eaten, there won’t be any left for new kiwyverns to hatch from. It’s not like they grow on trees! Wait—do they?”
—Dorothy Donegal, Confused Conservationist
Of all pseudo-avian monsters—a surprisingly numerous group—the kiwyvern is by far the most unfortunate. Not only are their eggs a highly sought-after delicacy, they also lay them at the torturous rate of one per year. This ill-fated combination has led to rapidly declining kiwyvern populations as their would-be offspring are taken for use in salads, potions, and spells.
Small and Surly. Life is unkind to kiwyverns, and they repay that unkindness ten times over. What they lack in size, they more than make up for in temperament, making the procurement of kiwyvern eggs no easy feat. Notoriously territorial, these creatures attack anything they perceive as a threat—which, due to their vertical shortcomings, is most things. They ‘kindly’ warn anyone who comes too close to their nests by biting them and promptly running away, imparting a sharp acidity that twists the victim’s face with both pain and sourness… and makes it rather difficult to see where the little ankle-biters took off to.
Homegrown Hooligans. As stealing kiwyvern eggs from their nests is often more trouble than it’s worth, a few bright minds had the idea to raise the creatures in captivity instead. To everyone’s surprise, the kiwyverns took quite well to their new lifestyle—as long as they were left alone. More surprising still, the eggs laid by captive specimens, as well as the offspring that hatched from them, were golden-yellow colour and lacked the fuzzy exterior of their green, wild counterparts. While they bear no discernable difference in taste from their equivalents, feral eggs are still in popular demand for aesthetic reasons.
