Mimir Games - Weekly Update #89 - Testing done on hacking app & gameplay, a few snapshots
About This Title
Hey all,
And we're back for another weekly with more news on the development for the new app. Last week was kicking off the integrated testing for the new app and gameplay sequence and I'm happy to report that this phase is done; the new app is fully functional with every workflow tied together.
I had to make some choices in order to fit the existing hint & clue system into the new sequence without adding or modifying too much of the framework, as the goal is for the player to have a seamless experience with apps on the remote host behaving exactly as they would on their own.
The whole thing has been quite the ordeal and very interesting development-wise; even though I had to make some cuts in the scope the framework is now there and it's definitely something I will reuse in the future. There's a lot of gameplay & storytelling opportunities emerging from these premices!
Now for an extended look on the new app, here's a few snapshots of the current build:
The idea was to have a replica of a terminal, fully interactive with a bunch of different commands for maximum immersion. There's also a couple of button shortcuts for some of these commands that do not require parameters. Everything will be explained to the player in-game but basically, you have tools to sniff out deleted/hidden files, and extract metadata of different existing content. By combining these, you may restore and uncover some hidden content, collect intel that you may use in conversations, impersonate the host's actual owner, etc.
I wanted to make it a mix of data scrubbing and social engineering, which is relevant to real life hacking but also very fitting in the existing game.
Now, I need to package and integrate everything that comes before the new app introduction (and a bit after too, transitioning to the dance session) which include some scripting, a few convos and make everything fit seamlessly into the script.
Hope you guys are excited for the new gameplay, we're truly in the home stretch now.
Thank you so much for the support, and stay tuned for the upcoming posts; we're getting there!
