About This Title

To think the skill would double in efficacy. It’s like I gained an extra 1.8 skill slots.

But the biggest gains are the divinity resistance and aura!

My aura fucking doubled!

[Aura]

Aura: 8942 ((679 7.44)1.77)

Estimated Aura range (distance from mana heart):

Close: 89.4 Meters

Field: 894 Meters

Far: 26.83 Kilometers

Insane. Now this feels like it’s getting somewhere. And the boosted Light element damage resistance together with the Perfect Run pin… I’m at 81%? I have to say it’s a bit annoying that we don’t just get a resistances system window, why is that?

Also past the damage reduction of resistances [Heat Death] still cuts the damage I take in half. So technically, I’m up to 90.5% Light res. Those space lasers Lilith had would probably only tickle me now. I would probably still get instantly vaporized by Phillip’s breath, though.

Well, it’s neat but offensive light magic is still pretty rare… All things considered, between the pin and [Heat Death], don’t I take 62.5% less damage of everything, baseline? I feel like that should be pretty solid.

Yet the giants were still killing me in one hit… Pareth on the other hand… Well, he has two hundred times my health.

No wonder the giants were so strong, in hindsight. Any less than that and they wouldn’t even be able to hurt you.

Sofia thought, looking at Pareth who was still holding his own vial. He had been guarding her while she was out, so he had yet to use his.

“Still undecided on what to use it on?”

Pareth glanced at her. The cold flames in his eyes used to be impossible to read, but after years, Sofia was getting so used to it that she could tell where he was looking even if his skull didn’t move.

“You do have plenty of choices, but really there are only a few valid targets and you know it.”

Pareth nodded.

“Your [Giant Blood] racial’s health doubling could be nice especially since it’s passive. But then again [Sanctified grounds] is just a better option for stat-stacking, which itself would likely benefit more from enhancing the Corona’s light-skills buff.”

Pareth nodded in agreement.

“But what still beats that defensively is the damage by hit threshold. If it goes from ten to twenty percent… Anything that would hit for less than a fifth of your health you could just shrug off. That is pretty big… Though…”

There Pareth shook his head.

“Yeah the big hits are the real issues, aren’t they. Especially now that my passive skeleton healing just doubled again in power and range. I get 248% healing power from my skill, then that’s buffed by 50% from your halo, so 372… With my aura’s baseline of 6.5%... That’s a quarter of your health that I’m healing you for every second. Ridiculous…”

That being said Pareth did not look so impressed by the healing.

“I know, the healing’s diminishing returns are starting to be more of an issue than the healing itself. In a way it’s surprising that it hasn’t been an issue for long. There has to be a skill that can counteract it a bit, don’t you think? We’ll ask Shaily if she found anything. If not, then we can always try asking a Kleptra… In the meantime we have [Greater Heal] to bypass it once a fight so it’s not too bad. We know it happens because healing strains the blueprint so maybe countermeasures against blueprint alteration would help? Killing two birds with one bone.”

Pareth looked intently at Sofia as though asking why she was so intent on making killing birds her life’s mission.

“What, did I say anything wrong? Anyway, it’s between your Specialization and your Signature skill. There’s a chance you could get three extra soul imbuements for your signature, but it’s uncertain you’ll get a nice doubling like I did. On the other hand, the specialization boosts most of your skills outright. Plus a good chunk of my skills are still Light-related so I benefit from that one too. Really they’re both correct choices.”

Looking pensive, Pareth sat on the ground, playing with his beard as he was lost in thought. After a while, he looked up at Sofia.

“Decided? So, which one?”

Pareth’s skull shook.

“No?”

He mimed something elongating with his hands, leaving Sofia perplexed.

“Wider? Longer? … Oh, long term? Yes? Sure… Are you suggesting keeping it for later? I don’t see what could be better than a general buff long term.”

Again Pareth answered with a negative.

“Well, tell me then.”

Pareth opened his Corona specialization window in front of Sofia.

[Ophanim Corona]:

Be not afraid.

Increase the strength of all Holy and Light-related skills for the user and allies in view by 50%. (Does not affect itself)

Whenever your main target attacks one of your allies instead of you, they gain a stack of Judgement, up to three times. Only one target may be judged at a time.

Each stack of Judgement gives ‘+50% damage taken from all sources; Speed -15%’.

You can [Divine Warp] to targets with at least two stacks of Judgement.

Targets with three stacks of Judgement cannot regain health or stamina.

Not targeting the fifty percent bonus, then…

“Wait… The number of marks? Oooh. Hmmm… That’s a difficult one. Effects that target enemies in my opinion are worse than self buffs, because there’s the chance of someone being immune to it. But assuming they’re not, and if the number of stacks even just goes up to five, that’s another 30% speed debuff and 100% damage increase… And it is very likely that the stronger we get the more our critical fights will be against a singular powerful target… I think… It could be good. But it really depends on how much of an increase the numbers would get in each case.”

A few more minutes passed, and Pareth was unable to make up his mind. He also brought up his [Draconic Shapeshifting], feeling that perhaps targeting the size change factor could let him become a true giant which had its own benefits, but even that idea was discarded for being too simple.

Sofia had already made her mind that [Opahnim Corona]’s light skills boost was the best target, but she would not force her decision on Pareth, so she suggested something else to help him make up his mind.

“Alright, since we’re relatively safe here for now. How about you stop sleeping on all those fusion tickets you got? Didn’t you already have two leftovers from spending your points in the last trial? You should have seven of them, no? If there’s no obvious choice then we should just make one. Thoughts?”

Pareth was surprised at the sudden suggestion, but he actually seemed slightly excited at the idea, quickly opening trimmed-up descriptions of all of his passives.

[Shapeless weapon of light]:

Instantly invokes a weapon of solid light in the shape of any melee weapon you possess knowledge of in your hand. Its form can be changed at will.

Durability of the invokation scales with class level.

Maximum weapon length is thrice the wielder’s height.

Damage is 90% physical 10% light. (+25% Racial Cold)

When damaged, the weapons quickly repair themselves.

Can invoke one per hand.

[Shapeless armor of light]:

Instantly invokes an armor of solid light to protect yourself. Its form can be changed at will.

Durability and mana-protection of the invokation scales with class level.

When damaged, the armor quickly repairs itself.

[Higher magical damage negation]:

Negate 33% of all incoming magical damage.

Damage from magical attacks of a filter or more below yours is negated entirely.

[Space magic resilience]:

Spatial magic skills have a harder time targeting you, affect your movements 25% less, and inflict 25% reduced damage on you.

[Displacement skill immunity]:

Magic that directly moves or teleports you cannot do so against your will and cannot keep you locked in place either.

[Shield-devouring frost]:

Your successful cold-attribute attacks inflict temporary all-resistances penalty depending on damage dealt, up to -25%.

Your cold-attribute attacks inflicts triple damage on non-living targets and slightly impedes self-repair and defensive enchantments.

Shields you wield inflict cold damage and [Permafrost] on contact.

“Right… I never asked but you’re getting [Permafrost] twice with the crown if you hit someone with your shield now right? Does it get double the efficiency?”

Sofia ended up having Pareth demonstrate by giving a light shield bash to a bear thrall in the halls.

Pareth’s master shield had actually already absorbed quite a few shields while Sofia wasn’t looking, so it had a lot more effects than she knew. She watched with fascination as the bear thrall’s bones hit by the shield were shattered by some kind of aftershock, burned to a crisp, hit by an electric pulse, frozen solid, then lastly covered in a layer of ice.

“So it actually activates twice. At what point does it get more efficient for you to just bash people’s heads in with this instead of using your sword?”

Pareth gave a disapproving skull shake, which made Sofia chuckle.

“Alright so… Let’s get to fusing. The order is important, so how do we start…”

Sofia made bone slates for each of the skills, and together they worked on arranging them in a way that seemed like it would bring out the best results. Depending on how they went about it the same starting skills could fuse into something completely different. Pairing the armor and weapon of light together, then the space and displacement resistance together, fusing the results and finishing with the frost skill seemed like an easy route, but Sofia would never let Pareth settle for something that simple.

Their first fusion ended up landing on [Shapeless weapon of light] with [Higher magical damage negation].

It only took the system a few minutes to bless Pareth with a brand new [Witch-hunter’s Armaments] skill.

Dying to make a joke about Pareth and Alith, Sofia faced the ultimate trial of trying to keep a straight face.
