R.A. Scott - What do we want for the next series??
About This Title
As Sin & Grace winds down, I am looking ahead to my next project and there are a few strong contenders!
I thought I would check in with you guys and get your thoughts. Some of these you are familiar with and some of them you are not.
The contestants!
Miss Maple: Solving Murder Mysteries in the Countryside After My Banishment
Content warnings: Faux British Countryside
Summary:
Acacia Maple Blackthorne’s life has just hit rock bottom. She has temporarily stumbled from being a duke’s daughter, a titan of high society, a future premiere magical society researcher, and the fiancee of the most eligible husband candidate of her generation. Her life should have been nothing but roses, but then a plucky young ingénue caught her fiance’s eye and Acacia might have overreacted. Just a bit.
After jeopardizing her golden future through one catastrophically poor decision, Acacia’s parents have banished her to her late grandparents' pastoral countryside estate in a last-ditch effort to keep her from causing any further trouble before things blow over. She will now live in the old groundskeeper’s cottage at her under the pseudonym of ‘Maple Bramblett’ for a year while the heat dies down back home.
Her orders are simple; keep her head down and cause no more problems for the family or this temporary exile could become permanent.
Acacia—or rather, Maple intends to do just that. She’s actually kind of tired and humiliated, now that she’s no longer in the thick of her scandal, and part of her actually welcomes the opportunity to take a break from being herself.
Then her neighbor is found dead in his locked study.
Maple’s alibi is flimsy and she also has a false identity to hide. Worse still, if Maple’s mother finds out that she was anywhere near this new scandal then that empty threat to send her to a convent might become something more like a promise.
What to expect:
A Queen Bitch Bee in recovery, slowly having to learn how to behave like a normal human being
An idyllic countryside landscape with a surprising number of monster attacks
An increasingly implausible number of murders in a small geographic area
Cute romance with the local flower shop girl who is (probably) not a murderer
Comedy; please do not take the majority of this story seriously
Regular excerpts from Maple's terrible reading material
Stella Winterthorn is Tired of This Shit
by R.A. Scott
Summary:
Steladine Winterthorn, called Stella, dies cold and alone of a preventable disease caused by the black mold in the walls of the semi-abandoned mansion that she's spent her life confined in.
The thing is, Stella ends up thriving in her afterlife. Her soul is chosen to become a Gladiator and compete for godhood by climbing the Spire of Heaven. It's a place that suits Stella well: an orderly world where effort matters, the rules make sense, and she is free to roam wherever she wants—so long as she's strong enough to get there.
Then, without warning, Stella is yanked out of the Spire and unceremoniously dumped back into her own past as forgotten sixteen-year-old prisoner, roughly two years before her original death.
The bad news: Her family is no different than they were in her first life, she has few allies among her father's vassals, Stella's hard-earned powers have followed her through both time and her resurrection, but she's been busted back down to Level 1.
The good news: This time, she isn't a just an unwanted princess trapped in a rotting tower.
The complicated news: the System that organizes and facilitated her growth as a Gladiator in the Spire has started to infect other people in this world. New Gladiators are being born and almost every single one of them has Main Character Delusion and monsters that were previously confined to the Spire are now spawning in the woods surrounding her father's estate.
Even worse still, the Lord of the Spire seems to think that this catastrophe is the natural consequences of interfering with his domain, so he's just going to sit back with a tub of popcorn and watch it all happen.
As the only experienced Gladiator available, Stella finds herself in the strange new role of mentor and enforcer in a growing sea of 'noobs' (an ancient word that describes newly awakened Gladiators in the Spire.) She likes some of them. Most of them are annoying.
Will she leverage her power to force her estranged family to acknowledge her at last or will she let them founder on their own?
Trick question, she's going to watch them drown while she takes full advantage of this rare opportunity to experience everything she never got to do in her first life so that when she returns to the Spire and continues her climb to Heaven, she'll go back without a single regret.
Also, she is going to find the idiot who decided it was a good idea to turn back time and kick their ass. Whatever they were after, she hopes it's still worth it.
What to Expect:
Stella was socialized by dust bunnies and celestial Gladiators. It shows.
The shocking power of DANCE!
Found family.
Moderate litRPG elements.
Ebon Impact
by R.A. Scott
Summary:
Recent college grad,Maddy, and her three friends, Alex, Taylor, and Lauren die suddenly at the conclusion of a girls-only night out (and covert 'please do not get back together with your ex' intervention for Taylor) when an out-of-control truck hits them in the crosswalk and turns their bar-hopping trip into a sudden, non-con Isekai transition.
They have been summoned into the world of Ebon Impact, a MMO they like to play for the crafting/base building aspect and where they also moonlight as Griefer Hunters—only it's real, now.
Living the ultimate nerd fantasy would be a dream come true…if any of them were actually nerds.
In fact, Maddy's group only got into Ebon Impact in the first place because Taylor bought the game (and a PlayStation) as a Christmas present for her chronic mistake, Brody, and ended up keeping it when she found out that he'd gotten her a pig magnet that oinks when you open the fridge.
Fortunately, the girls are quick on their feet and even faster to take charge in a crisis.
This may not be how any of them planned to spend their post-grad life, but on the bright side at least they don't have to worry about Brody anymore.
…or do they?
What to expect:
Four alpha-type former mean girls vs the Fantasy World
Two cute baby gays and two less cute aro-ace bitches
A minion who has figured out that the cheat code for working with girls is food
Isekai world natives who are more used to working with transmigrated champions than you might expect
An occasional comedy of errors
Light litRPG elements
