Fireblade185 - Revisiting Rook Islands...

More from Fireblade185 Fireblade185 - Did I ever tell you how easy it is to animate with LMC?

About This Title

It was the game that dragged me towards crafting in an FPS and, out of all in the series, Far Cry 3 is still the only one I can think of when it comes to "nostalgia vibes".. And I thought it would be a fun side project to bring it into Unreal.

Also, I'm testing the performance of Gaia Works builsing tools and I needed a 64 square kilometers map so... Rook was the first that came to mind.

Very important, this is what you get when the Gaia project is live and available for download so... might wanna keep an eye on it.

It's reverse engineering, so the terrain is a 1:1 replica, roads included. I want to see how much I can push the remake so it looks "modern" but also keeps the overall vibe.

So far, it doesn't, since it's using a different landscape material and assets but... I hope I'm on the right track

I'm using the game data as reference and rebuild using Unreal's Tools (rivers use the Shallow Water plugin, for example, from the Witcher 4 demo).

Brought some assets towers and Amanaki village as references and rebuilt the bridges using Quixel Megascans as nanites assemblies. The placement is from the game data.

For the gunplay, I'm experimenting with the FPS templates and mover Ragdoll, Unreal's latest movement asset. Still some work needed, because one bullet and it acts like it was hot by a train .

Last but not least, this is running on our base setup, the RTX 3060... The goal is this look (or better) and 60fps on High settings.

Hope you like it and see you soon!
