About This Title

Hi everyone! I'm a few days late, but here's everything I worked on during the month of October, including the next big update to ImageShare, fixes for Just the Browser, and new blog posts.

ImageShare

I started working on the next major release of ImageShare. The goal is to improve the self-hosted mode and documentation, so it becomes easy to run on your own NAS, homelab, or desktop. That way, you can transfer images and videos without them leaving your local network, and use features that aren't possible on the public web version (like Imgur support).

The first step was making an official Docker image, so ImageShare can be easily set up in any environment with Docker Engine (or a compatible clone) without cloning the Git repository. It's pretty cool to see it in the search results for the Container Manager on my Synology NAS!

The Docker image is still experimental—some of the ports, mount paths, and other options will change between now and the next release. I'm still learning the best practices for building and publishing Docker images.

Progress on this update will probably be slow moving, but I'm excited to work on it when I can!

Just the Browser

Previously, installing any of the Just the Browser configurations on Windows would create an item in the Installed Apps list (what used to be the "Add or Remove Programs" Control Panel). That was useful as a visual indicator that something was installed, and as a shortcut to remove the settings if needed. Unfortunately, those entries were causing the compatibility telemetry service in Windows to repeatedly crash, because they were not direct paths to executables.

Shortly after the bug was reported, I released an update that removes the uninstall entries. The fix is automatically applied when the installer is opened, or if any of the current install or uninstall registry files are used.

Besides that, I also updated the list of blocked features in Chrome and Edge. The new items aren't marked as a release yet, but they are in the current configuration files.

The Spacebar

I'm getting back to blogging! I published three articles on The Spacebar in October:

This setting fixed my iPhone's music quality

I can't believe PowerShell is actually good

This is every Ubuntu Linux default wallpaper (updated for Ubuntu 26.10!)

You can subscribe to The Spacebar as an email newsletter, or follow new posts through the RSS feed, the Mastodon account, or Bluesky.
