The Griffon's Saddlebag - Bow of the Courier
infoAbout This Title
Weapon (shortbow), uncommon
This bow is carved in the likeness of a large-billed pelican. While holding the bow, you can use an action to speak its command word and touch an arrow that's nocked in it to another object within your reach; the object is then magically tethered to the arrow. You can also make a single attack with the bow using that arrow as part of this action; a tethered object doesn't alter the arrow's flight. A translucent, illusory pelican appears to carry the tethered object in its bill for the duration of the arrow's flight.
The tethered object can weigh no more than 5 pounds and must be able to fit in the palm of your hand. It remains tethered for 1 minute or until the arrow hits a target, at which point the object is released and drops to the ground below. The GM determines what happens when the object drops in this way: delicate objects, such as a vial of acid, may shatter on impact, or a bag of ball bearings may scatter in the surrounding area. If you target a point on a solid surface with the arrow (such as a wall or ceiling), a creature can use its reaction to catch the tethered object before it drops to the ground, provided the creature is within reach of the targeted point or directly below it.
“Dad, where do babies come from?”“Uh…UH…the bird! The big bird! With the beak! Looks funny. Carries things.”“A pelican?”“Sure! That one! Why not! Ask your mother!”
