The Griffon's Saddlebag - Magician's Owl

The Griffon's Saddlebag - Magician's Owl

infoAbout This Title

Wondrous item, uncommon (requires attunement by a spellcaster)

This tiny brass owl is about 5 inches tall and is virtually weightless. You can tap its head as a bonus action to cause its amber eyes to magically emit light, as if by a candle, or to extinguish them. If you place the owl on your shoulder (or similar), it remains there and magically steadies itself.

While attuned to the owl, you gain a +1 bonus to any ability check you make that uses your spellcasting ability.

The owl has a 1st-level spell slot, which you can use in place of your own when you cast a 1st-level spell while the owl is on your person (you must still concentrate on spells as normal). Alternatively, you can use an action to speak the owl's command word to expend that spell slot and duplicate the effects of the find familiar spell; the brass owl is the familiar, which magically animates itself, is a construct, and uses the owl stat block. This version of the stat block has resistance to all damage, immunity to poison and psychic damage as well as the poisoned condition, and 10 hit points. The owl ceases to be animated if it drops to 0 hit points or if you dismiss the familiar; reducing the owl familiar to 0 hit points doesn't destroy the item.

The owl regains its spell slot daily at dawn. If it's animated by the find familiar spell, the spell ends at the same time.

The brass owl hooted with eagerness and a hint of warning. As Marius searched his tomes and scrolls, the answers still eluded him. The puzzle box simply wouldn’t open.He idly reached to his shoulder to reassure the tiny companion.“What is it my little friend…what am I missing? I’m just not seeing…it—oh…well, hang on a minute.”The little bird hopped onto Marius’ shoulder, its amber eyes glowed with excitement.
