About This Title
Hey buds, here's the ad-free version of the latest video, along with some behind the scenes production screenshots, and a breakdown of what I think was the hardest part of the video edit -- which might surprise you.
This video was a fun one to make.
After watching both of Nintendo's Direct streams last week, I had originally intended on making a video that would essentially make a case for the Switch 2 on its own -- how it feels like Nintendo has been diligently doing brilliant work on its own while the rest of industry is seemingly burning.
But then when I considered its relationship to my own Steam Deck and how well I find that the Switch 2 complements it, I decided that specific use case argument was a more interesting topic than a broad, "Hey, the Switch 2 is actually pretty great!" video.
The most difficult part of the video to edit was at the 6:15 mark.
When it comes to presenting information -- especially screenshots, snippets from an article, game footage, or a combination of these things, it would be very easy to just display them on screen at the exact moment I talk about them.
Most sane YouTubers would do this.
Evidently, I am not.But I really like static information to be visually interesting to watch, so I always make an effort to animate it to some degree -- whether that means slow zooms, moving into the screen from various angles, etc.
With this sequence, I particularly wanted each new element to replace the previous one in a fun way, rather than hard cuts between each one. So the idea of them sliding in to replace one another, or overlap one another was what I went for.
This took quite a bit of time and meticulously paying attention to timing and positioning, but I think it worked out well!
Thanks for being here, buds.
