bernth - #447 - It's Boring, But It Will Triple Your Guitar Speed

Hey everyone! I have a new practice package for you this week, and this one is all about a problem I hear about constantly: hand synchronization.

Download the complete practice package here:

Something I think a lot of guitarists overlook is that you don't really have one speed limit. Your picking hand has one, your fretting hand has one, and then there's the speed at which both hands can actually work together.

So I made 5 exercises that help you figure out where your actual weak point is.

For every exercise, you'll first play the picking pattern on muted strings, then isolate the fretting-hand movement, and finally put both hands together and play the complete phrase.

Write down the maximum clean BPM you can reach for all three.

You might find something like:

Picking: 60 BPMFretting: 40 BPMBoth hands: 30 BPM

Now you actually know what needs work instead of just repeating the full exercise and hoping it eventually gets faster.

The workbook also has space to track all your results, a practice routine for working on whatever weak point you discover, and a 30-day retest so you can come back and see if your numbers actually improved.

The basic idea is:

Isolate → Improve → Synchronize → Retest

Start with the slow versions, find your clean maximum speeds, and let me know what you discover!

I'm especially curious how many of you find out that the hand you thought was holding you back actually isn't

Have fun practicing!
