awardiente - The Dare — Sequence 1: Neil’s Introduction Reworked
infoAbout This Title
Hello, everyone! We have a big update on what we’ve been working on over the past few weeks :3!
One of the biggest challenges in storytelling is finding the most effective way to communicate a story while keeping it engaging and well paced. As Episode 2 The Dare evolved and became more complex, what began as a simple idea about a character being dared to hook up with a dragon turned out to require much more narrative care than we initially expected D:
We realized that one of the most important parts we needed to strengthen was the opening of the animation. Sequence 1 has the crucial job of introducing Neil and Dante, establishing their personalities, and setting and tone of the entire story. So we got to work creating new scenes that would help us tell Neil’s journey more effectively with the help of our animator LazerToe!
Voice acting was also a very important part of this introduction, as we worked on Neil’s characterization to make him work in the best possible way: a confident horse who thinks he has everything figured out, even though reality rarely matches his expectations. A huge thank-you to @SpicyGayDog for his VA work as Neil!
We’re currently putting the finishing touches on the transition from Sequence 1 into Sequence 2. The structure is already in place, and we’re now wrapping up the remaining VA recordings. As soon as it’s ready, we’ll share it with you!
After that, we’ll finish assembling Sequence 3 while Sequence 4 continues moving through production. As a reminder, these four sequences make up the full animation. We originally envisioned seven, but ultimately consolidated them into four longer sequences.
These narrative updates will be coming regularly, allowing you to follow how we’re connecting everything and watch the full story unfold.
In our next narrative post, we’ll share more about Francis and Tyson’s introduction! We have improve it so much :D
As always, stay tuned for more updates! This animation has become crazy complex, and it’ll probably be around the same length as Kim – The Audit, or perhaps a little longer :PP!
Neil’s interactions with his friends and it's dialogue have added a whole new layer of complexity. We’re having a lot of fun with it, but it’s definitely been a wild ride! We’ll keep doing our best to bring it all together >:3
We have lots of fun content coming over the next few weeks. Thank you all for your patience, and we hope you’re enjoying these behind-the-scenes looks >:3
