About This Title
Hey everybody, it's Jon again. Well, uh, those of you who guessed what my next project would be about ... how did you do?
This is the first episode of a three-part series, The History of Our Pants Falling Down. It explains itself pretty well and the ground rules are established within the first few minutes, so I think i'll just let it speak for itself. I'm excited about it for a few reasons. For one, I'd been producing my series on charging the mound since last November, meaning it's been an entire year since I've taken on a new project.
Perhaps even more significantly, though, it's my first-ever Blender project. It became necessary to make the jump after Google announced their intention to phase out Google Earth Pro, but frankly, I should have made it a lot sooner. Making this series, and particularly this episode, served as my Blender crash course, and while you'll ultimately be the judge of how it looks and feels, I'm really happy with it.
It's already allowed me to do all kinds of things you'll see in this video that were impossible in Earth. The big one, for sure, is the ability to actually animate objects – in Earth, the camera was usually the only moving piece, and the objects couldn't do anything other than switch on and off. Other newfound abilities are both much more basic and much more funny: not sure if you ever noticed, but in Earth, it was literally impossible for me to stand up an image at a 90-degree angle. Everything had to lie flat. Which means that in recent months, I have been absolutely thrilled by the space-age ability to, for example, attach an image to every face of a cube.
If you have half as much fun watching it as I had making it, mission accomplished. Parts 2 and 3 are in production now and will be ready to go in early December and January, respectively.
EDIT: Unbelievable. As some of you have already pointed out, George Orwell did not fight alongside Nationalist rebels in Spain, he fought AGAINST them. I'd made a bunch of edits to that section, forgot to change that word, and clearly didn't catch it while recording voiceover. I'll fix it before it goes up on YouTube. Sorry, and thanks to everyone who flagged it.
