About This Title
Wondrous item, rare
While wearing this armband, whenever a creature that's grappled by you makes an ability check or saving throw to escape the grapple, it must roll a d4 and subtract the number rolled from the check or save. On a failure, the target also takes bludgeoning damage up to the number rolled on the d4 (your choice each time). If this damage reduces the target to 0 hit points, you can knock it out; such a creature falls unconscious and is stable. If the creature needs to breathe and rolls a 4 on the d4, it is unable to speak until it is no longer grappled by you, as it struggles to breathe in your grasp.
"Turns out, the finest erudition and the most intricate magical words can't do much against a chokehold. Get that one into that big head of yours for next time, eh? And maybe don't struggle so much like a caught fish."
—Bertold the Boa, winner of the DXIV Mage Duels; disqualified because casting misty step once then choking the opponent out was ruled counter to the spirit of the competition
