Shady Characters - Devblog #108
About This Title
Hey Wizards! Shady Character One here!
First of all, let me brag a bit about the progress on my writing. Not only did I keep my “300 words per day” streak alive last week. Well, more or less - I did have to skip two days because I had almost zero time and strength to write anything on those days, so I don’t count those. But on top of writing those 1500 words within the “write every day” paradigm, I also wrote the date event for Katelyn, which - repeat it with me - “turned out to be the biggest one yet”. Honestly, I don’t know what to do with this trend. I don’t want the events to become these huge monsters which you need to stop and read for ten minutes each. But I do find myself writing bigger and bigger events as time goes on. Then again, Katelyn is a very talkative girl, and to be fair, there’s a lot more that she could talk about, but I found it in myself to just wrap the event up, so maybe this one was more of an outlier rather than another milestone in an ever upwards-going trend.
I will try not to really focus on the number of words written in these devblogs, because I know that these particular numbers don’t really mean all that much to you as players. Putting the work done into more easily understandable metrics - the Trial of Mobility is about half done. At the current pace it should turn out to be about the same size as the two previous Trials. And if all goes as it does now, I should be finishing it in about a month. Let’s keep our fingers crossed.
Sadly, since I was focusing so much on the third Trial, I really didn’t have much opportunity to write any new day-to-day events. There are quite a few of those already in the game, however, so maybe that’s something we can live with for now.
Shady Two is working on the backgrounds still, and if you ever wondered why it takes her so much time to finish artworks, I will tell you. Last week I caught her reading on Irish herbal symbolism because she needed to pick a floral pattern for one of the items in the room. I am not saying that all of the items on her artwork are filled with hidden meaning and messages, but she does spend a lot of time thinking about almost every single one of them. There isn’t just a bed in your room. There are multiple variants of beds, each with a dozen references which she looks up and studies. Multiply that by the number of tables, books, shelves, window frames and other things in the room, and you’ll get a better idea of her work process. The same goes for her artworks of girls, but thankfully to a lesser degree, since those artworks have another focus.
That said, the Dunagall room is close to completion and with it, another one of the pin-up posters that each of the rooms will have. We’ll have the large versions of them available for our patrons later.
Probably not as soon as next week though, when I’ll see you in the next devblog entry.
