About This Title
Hey Wizards! Shady Character One here!
So, another week has passed. I cannot say that a lot of time was spent on game development last week, but what time was spent was spent quite productively. First of all, we had a discussion on possibly adding a bit more customization to the MC’s room into the game. It all started with us discussing the new pin-up posters that she Shady Two is making for the rooms in different Houses, but we also touched on the possibility of adding other cosmetic (or not) items that can be visualized in the room. For example, I always wanted for the players to be able to see purchased items not only in their inventory, but also in their rooms. It is still a matter of big discussion, since it will, again, increase Shady Two’s workload, but if it is something that can be easily replicated for each of the rooms - maybe we will implement it in some capacity.
Another thing I managed to do last week is writing another event for Katelyn, which brings the number of her events to seven. And that, in turn, brings the number of girls getting to just about the finish line to three. We’re getting there.
Writing Katelyn’s event, however, I came to a realization that I had never touched on the language issue in our world. It is much more important in our interactions with Bassant, for whom I just recently wrote too, and Thorgny. But Katelyn is a person of interest in this case too. As well as Violet. Professor Kassandropoulos. And god knows who else. Because, you see, they don’t speak the same language. And yet, they can easily interact with each other and the MC on a daily basis. That’s not a plot hole. They do actually understand what each of them is saying without knowing all the required languages. In-universe it is possible due to a Chinese magical technique that allows direct communication. Basically, when at least one of the participants knows the technique, as long as both people want to understand and be understood, the intended meaning of the words is automatically translated to the other person.
It wasn’t always like that, of course. The technique only migrated westwards around the fifteenth century. Before that, European wizards needed translators like all the other people. But nowadays, almost every single wizard is taught it from a young age and by the age of seven most wizards have no language barrier at all. It doesn’t work for written language, sadly, so one still needs to study if they want to understand foreign books, and that’s why languages are still studied by wizards. But if it is just talking - they can hear their partner as if both of them were speaking each other’s native tongues fluently. In my headcanon that ability also explains how the localization of the game works. Your MC’s native language might not be English or Irish, but you will hear everyone as if they are speaking in your language.
With that, I think I will bow out for today. I'll see you next week.Shady Character One, out!
