About This Title
Hey Wizards! Shady Character One here!
So, last week we finally got a new addition to our roster. It has been a while since we had anyone new, but now Bassant finally had her first event introduced into the game. Originally she was due a looooong time ago, but as some of you might know, things got shuffled around a lot, things got delayed a lot, so it is only now that I finally got to actually write her. And when I did, I came to a realization. Unlike all the other girls I have written so far, I had no idea what Bassant’s storyline is supposed to be. Strike that. I did know what things I wanted to cover during our time with her, but I didn’t have a concrete plan as I did with the other girls.
Back in the days of early production I outlined the stories for the main eight girls from start to finish. Yes, some of them changed a bit as I actually started writing the events. I moved around a few things. A couple of events got merged into a single one. An event or two got added to an already existing structure. But I still had a more or less concrete idea of what is happening at certain points in the storylines and which events follow which. I did nothing of the sort for Bassant and Hope, since those two characters were not due for a while, and so I forgot about that.
It doesn’t help that Bassant’s “storyline”, and I am using this term very roughly here, doesn’t have a story, so to speak. Bassant’s story is the main plot of the game. She is a champion of her school just like the main character, so it would be a bit strange to add another agenda on her list at that point. Her storyline is supposed to focus more on her interactions with the main character outside of the Cup of Cathal. That makes planning for her events a bit more complicated. I knew all the points that I wanted to touch on, but I just didn’t have a full picture of when and where I should put them. I have that plan now, of course, but initially I was struggling picturing her whole event line, and I couldn’t figure out why. Well, that’s just because I didn’t have anything to picture at that moment.
The lack of a “personal quest” is not the only thing that separates Bassant from the other girls. Her story will probably be the most difficult one to complete in a casual playthrough. She is a very willful and pragmatic girl. She is very aware of her role in her school and the expectations put on her. Which will make balancing interactions with her and your own participation in the Cup of Cathal difficult. But that’s something one has to expect when trying to woo one of the best students in a very strict school where a lot is demanded from their students. It will be up to the players to see if they can break the grasp that Necropolis has put over its golden girl and show Bassant that it is sometimes worth taking risks and doing what you want instead of what everyone is telling you to do.
With that, I think I will leave you all until next week.Shady Character One, out!
