About This Title

SO

I've been spending quite a bit of time writing music for Bring the BEEF, and today I wanted to share another track with you.

Pieces of Gold.

As I've mentioned before, music is going to be a pretty important part of BTB. Not just as background music, but as another way of telling stories, exploring our characters, and giving the world a little more soul.

And while some songs will be tied to specific characters and their personal stories, this one is a little different.

This one is about the island itself, Fidelio, And, in a way, about all of us.

About getting older, making mistakes, leaving things behind, and realizing that maybe the best chapters of our lives aren't necessarily the ones we've already lived.

Not overly cheerful. Not particularly sad.

Just... hopeful.

Because underneath all the beef, the questionable decisions, the ridiculous characters, and the architectural crimes I'm inevitably going to commit on this island...

Bring the BEEF is ultimately about finding somewhere to belong.

And I think this song captures that feeling rather nicely.

Anyway, enough monkey philosophy.

PIECES OF GOLD

An Original Bring the BEEF Song

[Verse 1]

I've sailed beneath a hundred skies,Watched kingdoms fall and oceans rise.I've seen the best of men grow old,And traded dreams for pieces of gold.

I've walked through towns that time forgot,Made peace with things that I could not.And somewhere past the great unknown,I found a shore that felt like home.

[Pre-Chorus]

And I can't tell you where we're going,Or what the morning has in store. But there's a light across the water,And I think it's worth sailing for.

[Chorus]

There's more to the story, more to the sea,More to the man that I thought I would be.More than the wreckage, more than the shards,More than the distance between us and stars.

So pour me another, and leave on the light,We've still got a lifetime to get something right. And if all that tomorrow can promise is new,Well, that's good enough for me and you.

[Verse 2]

There's an old inn standing by the shore,With crooked beams and a weathered door.A man inside with a stubborn face,Who swears there's nothing wrong with the place.

There's a fool who thinks he's born to reign,A sailor who'll be leaving again.A dozen souls with nowhere to be,And somehow they've made room for me.

[Pre-Chorus 2]

And there are roads we haven't wandered,And there are names we haven't learned.A thousand things worth getting wrong,And a thousand bridges left to burn.

[Chorus]

There's more to the story, more to the sea,More to the man that I thought I would be.More than the wreckage, more than the scars,More than the distance between us and stars.

So pour me another, and leave on the light,We've still got a lifetime can get something right. And if all that tomorrow can promise is new,Well, that's good enough for me and you.

[Bridge]

I used to think the world grew smaller,With every year that passed me by.That all the roads worth ever taking,Were somewhere in the years behind.

But here's a thing about tomorrow,That took me half my life to see.

It doesn't owe us anything...And still, it comes. And so do we.

[Final Chorus]

THERE'S MORE TO THE STORY, MORE TO THE SEA,MORE TO THE WORLD THAN WE EVER COULD SEEMORE THAN THE WRECKAGE, MORE THAN THE SCARS,MORE THAN THE THINGS THAT HAVE KEPT US APART

SO POUR ME ANOTHER, THE NIGHT'S STILL YOUNG,THERE ARE SONGS TO BE WRITTEN AND SONGS TO BE SUNGAND IF ALL THAT TOMORROW CAN PROMISE IS NEW,WELL, THAT'S GOOD ENOUGH...

THAT'S GOOD ENOUGH...

FOR ME AND YOU!

[Outro]

Hmm-mm, hmm-mm...The wind still knows the way...

And if there's more beyond the horizon...

I think I'll stay another day.
